It’s a bit of an understatement to say that the Kentucky Derby is unlike any other race in North America. Even the most casual of fans have their Derby horse, and it’s the one day of the year that can get even non-racing fans to watch horse racing.
This article will not tell you which horses to bet in the Kentucky Derby. If that’s the type of article you want, DRF.com will have many of those in the days leading up to the first Saturday in May. Instead, this article focuses on HOW to bet the Derby, particularly betting the superfecta in that race.
Friday’s pick five at Churchill Downs is an all stakes sequence beginning in race 7 and ending with the Kentucky Oaks.

Drama Coach (#2, ML 6-1) battles seven in Wednesday’s seventh race at Churchill Downs, a seven-furlong starter allowance. Since Jan. 1, 2014, trainer Chris Hartman is winning at a 25 percent clip in first starts off the claim, for a return on investment of $3.57.
Sky Commander (#5, ML 5-1) will return to action in Wednesday’s fourth race at Belmont, a one-mile optional claimer. It will be his first start since a second-place finish by a nose in a 6 1/2-furlong claimer April 8 at Aqueduct. The first- and fifth-place finishers from that race came back to win their next starts.
