When it comes to deep, competitive fields that make for great wagering events, fall 3-year-old stakes pack a starting gate like dollar draft beers do a college bar. And that is why they keep getting written. Two cases in point: Saturday night’s Grade 3 Commonwealth Turf and Grade 2 Mrs. Revere Stakes at Churchill Downs, which drew 13 and 14 entrants.
DRF Plus handicapping analysis for Aqueduct on Friday, November 15.
All three of Saturday’s graded stakes are scheduled for the turf: the Grade 2, $175,000 Mrs. Revere and Grade 3, $100,000 Commonwealth Turf at Churchill Downs, and the Grade 3, $250,000 Red Smith Handicap at Aqueduct. The Canadian turf 3-year-olds seem to be a good bunch this year, but in the Commonwealth, Winning Cause is preferred over a trio of invaders from the north.
