Law School looks to continue progressing in Wide Country

Bill Denver/EQUI-PHOTO
Law School has won two straight in impressive fashion, ending a four-race losing streak.

Law School was one of countless Parx Racing-based runners who missed training because of poor weather in January, skipping a potential start at Aqueduct to kick off her 3-year-old campaign. Instead, she will make her 2026 debut Saturday as a daunting contender in the $100,000 Wide Country Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at Laurel Park.

“I mean, everything you can think of, that’s what I am for him,” chuckled Knott.

Weekend GamePlan: Picks for Wishing Well, Gulfstream Sprint, Nodouble Breeders' Stakes

Jack's Promise wins at CD Oct 20 2025
Coady Media
Jack's Promise should get his preferred stalking trip in Saturday's Gulfstream Park Sprint.

This is the lightest stakes Saturday on the calendar until May 9, and even beyond that, it’s an odd collection of races. But surely somewhere within a riddle, wrapped in a mystery, inside an enigma there is a fair-priced winner.

Wishing Well

Gratefully is the 2-1 morning-line favorite in this restricted turf-sprint stakes. Sign me up – to side against her.

Led by Street Beast, full field vies for Derby points in Battaglia Memorial

Coady Media
Street Beast scored a one-length victory in the Leonatus over Fulleffort, whom he'll face again in the Battaglia.

It remains to be seen whether any of the 3-year-olds in the $175,000 John Battaglia Memorial on Saturday night at Turfway Park can emerge as legitimate Kentucky Derby candidates. But with the spring classic 10 weeks away, continuing to perform well and punching a ticket to a bigger-points prep down the line would be a fine accomplishment.

At 6, Damon's Mound sharp as ever for Gulfstream Park Sprint

Barbara D. Livingston
In his 2026 debut, Damon's Mound became the first horse to ever win back-to-back runnings of the Sunshine Sprint.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Damon’s Mound may not be the horse he was at 2 and 3 when winning prestigious Grade 2 races like the Saratoga Special and Gallant Bob. But at the age of 6, he is still good enough to come into Saturday’s $125,000 Gulfstream Park Sprint off a pair of stakes victories and as the likely favorite in the six-furlong fixture for older horses on the main track.

Gratefully puts undefeated record on the line in Wishing Well

Barbara D. Livingston
Gratefully (middle) tests her win streak, as she steps up into stakes company for Saturday's Wishing Well at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The undefeated filly Gratefully has a tough act to follow in the $100,000 Wishing Well Stakes on Saturday at Santa Anita.

Though the Wishing Well is a minor event in a specialty division – female turf sprinters – the six-furlong race has gained relevance the past two years. Before they became division leaders, Queen Maxima in 2025 and Ag Bullet in 2024 launched stakes campaigns by winning the Wishing Well.

Angel Cruz piloted Point Dume to victory in the General George at Laurel Park.

Jockey Angel Cruz has caught fire in the Mid-Atlantic, boasting a 19 percent strike rate at Laurel Park and Charles Town to begin his 2026 campaign. The pot got even sweeter in Maryland last Saturday, when the journeyman rider took center stage in the $200,000 General George and guided rising star Point Dume to a commanding gate-to-wire victory.

“He’s one of the best sprinters I’ve ridden in my career,” Cruz said. “I think he can go longer, but you could see in the last two races, he’s just improved so much.”

Moore pondering next start for Takethemoneyhoney after tough defeat

Jeffrey Snyder / Maryland Jockey Club
Following a tough loss, trainer Michael Moore is looking for Takethemoneyhoney's next start.

Trainer Michael Moore believes Takethemoneyhoney might have run the best race of her career in the $200,000 Barbara Fritchie on Saturday at Laurel. It hurt that she did so in defeat, coming up a nose short to Passage East in a thriller.

“Whatever number you want to look at, they all came back as the fastest race she’s ever run in her life, despite being beat,” Moore said.
