Cincinnati Trophy pits sprint stakes winners vs. proven route fillies

Coady Media
Map of the Moon was visually impressive winning the Gowell, though she earned just a 63 Beyer.

At first glance, when only two of the entrants in a race are stakes winners, and both local stakes winners, they stand out.

But look closer, and both unbeaten Map of the Moon and fellow Turfway Park winner Coco Connect are coming off their respective stakes victories sprinting. Friday night’s $175,000 Cincinnati Trophy, a two-turn mile on the Tapeta for 3-year-old fillies, is a different question – and one several in this field have already answered.

Corporate Power hasn’t started since checking in a well-beaten fifth in the Discovery Stakes two Novembers ago.

Corporate Power and Conquest Warrior both, at one point, were individual betting interests in the Kentucky Derby Future Wager – in 2024. Suffice it to say, things didn’t quite work out for either horse that year.

Conquest Warrior has not raced since finishing a distant fourth behind Fierceness as the second choice in the 2024 Florida Derby. Corporate Power also ran against Fierceness that year, finishing more than 18 lengths behind him in the Travers. He hasn’t started since checking in a well-beaten fifth in the Discovery Stakes two Novembers ago.
