Talk to Me Jimmy came out of his 11-length Withers victory with a cut on his right front foot and had to miss some training.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Talk to Me Jimmy, who suffered a cut on his right front foot during his 11-length victory in the Withers Stakes on Feb. 6, has resumed training. He galloped at Belmont Park on Friday, following several mornings of jogging.

Trainer Rudy Rodriguez said the cut is healing fine and it shouldn’t prevent him from preparing Talk to Me Jimmy for a likely start in the Grade 2, $750,000 Wood Memorial on April 4.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer Tom Morley believes the turf stakes winner Attfield is ready to make his 3-year-old debut. Morley does not believe it wise to have Attfield make his first start off a layoff also be his first start on dirt. There are no turf races Morley sees that entice him.

Barbara D. Livingston
Third Beer was second by a length in the Grade 3 Zuma Beach Stakes on Oct. 5 at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Sharons Beach was entered in Sunday’s $500,000 Sunland Park Derby in New Mexico, but the 3-year-old gelding never left California.

Trainer Jonathan Thomas opted to enter Sharons Beach in a maiden race at a mile on Monday at Santa Anita. Now, Thomas, and everyone else involved with Monday’s program, needs favorable weather conditions.

There is a forecast of extensive rain, which could lead to the cancellation of Monday’s races. Track officials said Thursday that a decision regarding Monday’s program will be made this weekend.

Man O Rose needs to gun from post 1 in Palos Verdes

Barbara D. Livingston
Man O Rose has won four straight California-bred stakes coming into the open-company Palos Verdes Stakes.

ARCADIA, Calif. – Considering it lost graded status this year, and offers a purse of just $100,000, the Palos Verdes Stakes is not a bad race Sunday at Santa Anita.

The six-furlong stakes pits streaking California-bred gelding Man O Rose against two high-profile Bob Baffert trainees – Grade 3 winner Pilot Commander and Grade 1-placed Madaket Road. Along with speedster Modus Bestia, four of the six entrants have a shot.

Zaghruta is 5 for 11 for trainer Brad Cox. She should be reasonably close to the pace on Sunday.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn Park holds a number of stakes for fillies and mares going a route of ground, and some of the track’s next generation of quality distaffers could emerge from Sunday’s seventh race.

The second-level allowance at 1 1/16 miles drew a promising cast of six. It shares a card with a nonwinners-of-three lifetime allowance sprint that features stakes winners Max Got Excited, R Heisman, and Touch Catch.

Hit Show during Fayette Stakes at KEE Oct 25 2025
Coady Media
Hit Show finished 2025 strong with a win in the Fayette (above) at Keeneland and a second in the Clark at Churchill. Following Saturday's race, he is scheduled to go for a repeat win in the Dubai World Cup.

For a horse that has won nearly half of his starts – including eight stakes – and has banked nearly $9 million, Hit Show doesn’t get a lot of buzz.

With an eye toward a repeat bid in the $12 million Dubai World Cup next month, Hit Show kicks off his 6-year-old campaign in Saturday’s Grade 3, $250,000 Mineshaft Stakes at Fair Grounds, where handicappers may look to a few up-and-comers to try and beat him.

Bella Ballerina following sister's path to Kentucky Oaks

Coady Media
Bella Ballerina is a half-sister to Pretty Mischievous, who took the Rachel Alexandra in 2023 and went on to win that year’s Kentucky Oaks.

Apparently, brothers named Carl Goose and Roscoe Ganz – Goose being the Americanized version of the German name Ganz – rode winners of the Kentucky Oaks, Carl in 1916, Roscoe three years earlier. Research reveals that since 1991 no equine siblings both won an Oaks, which dates to 1875, and if ever it happened the interwebs missed the memo.
