Domino Vitali the one to beat in featured allowance

Barbara D. Livingston
In her career debut a little over a year ago, Blueberry Hill was a 5 3/4-length victor at Gulfstream.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The lightly raced but extremely promising Domino Vitali figures to go postward as a heavy favorite to defeat five rivals in Friday’s $86,000 headliner, a one-mile test for older fillies and mares on the main track.

Domino Vitali, a $600,000 2-year-old purchase at the 2024 OBS March sale, was an instant success when finally launching her career last fall at Tampa Bay Downs. By Uncle Mo, the filly ran to her 4-5 backing by registering a one-sided, six-length maiden special weight victory going 6 1/2 furlongs.

Jackson Hole launched his 3-year-old campaign at Fair Grounds with a very impressive 5 1/2-length allowance victory when stretching out to 1 1/16 miles.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Although his speed figures might be a little light and he’s yet to test stakes company, Jackson Hole has one item on his résumé that puts him in the conversation when talking about leading contenders for Saturday’s Grade 2 Fountain of Youth: He’s the only member of the field to have won a race around two turns.

With a $198,741 carryover, pick six will have hefty pool

Off since October, Cuban Confusion returns for Friday's feature at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – A pick six carryover and a seven-figure pool are reasons enough for bettors to cope with a dreadful race that starts an otherwise appealing $2 pick six Friday at Santa Anita.

The $198,741 carryover is expected to attract $1 million in new money on races 4 through 9, a sequence with deep and competitive races – with one notable exception. The opening leg is a California-bred maiden-claiming mile with five runners and a favorite dropping off the worst race of his career.

Dutrow pair figure despite imperfect distance

Barbara D. Livingston
Trainer Rick Dutrow sends out the pair of The Obliterator and Slay Sadie Slay in Friday's feature at Aqueduct.

In Rick Dutrow’s perfect world, neither The Obliterator nor Slay Sadie Slay would be tackling a one-turn mile at Aqueduct this week. The trainer said one might prefer a little longer while the other might prefer a little shorter, but the 3-year-old colts should still be able to make the most of things in the seventh on Friday, a starter allowance/optional $50,000 claiming race.

“We’re not going to wait around and choose our position,” Dutrow said. “They use this race and we jump on in there.”

Coady Media
In the Bayakoa, Nerazurri raced with the pace and ultimately finished second behind stablemate Nitrogen.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Nerazurri lost nothing in defeat in her last start, and the company line from the race is one of the primary reasons she will be a strong favorite Friday in the $135,000 Trivista overnight stakes at Oaklawn Park.

Nerazurri exits the track’s Grade 3 Bayakoa on Feb. 7. She raced with the pace and ultimately finished second, 2 3/4 lengths behind champion and stablemate Nitrogen.

Fountain of Youth will test lightly raced Chief Wallabee

Chief Wallabee wins maiden at GP Jan 10 2026
Ryan Thompson/Coglianese Photos
Chief Wallabee was impressive winning his debut last month but will be taking a big class jump in the Fountain of Youth.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Chief Wallabee obviously showed a world of potential when rallying to defeat the highly regarded and subsequently stakes-placed The Puma launching his career going seven furlongs on Jan. 10 at Gulfstream Park. But did he do enough to warrant coming back around two turns in a major Kentucky Derby prep in his second start six weeks later?

That’s the question trainer Bill Mott has wrestled with since Chief Wallabee’s victory. He finally reached a decision 24 hours after his promising 3-year-old drew post 6 on Saturday in the Grade 2 Fountain of Youth.
