Zuby rallied from far back to win her career debut over a muddy track in a race that was originally carded for turf.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer George Weaver is looking forward to getting Zuby on turf in Sunday’s $150,000 Awad Stakes for 2-year-olds at Aqueduct. However, if forecasted rain showers force the race to the dirt, Weaver will be equally as happy to run the 2-year-old daughter of Vekoma against the boys in this six-furlong race.

Proven over dirt, Grand Slam Smile takes on Sneaker again in Sunday's Betty Grable at Del Mar.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Although she has won twice as often and earned twice as much, Grand Slam Smile has a score to settle with her nemesis Sneaker on Sunday at Del Mar.

Seven fillies and mares bred in California are entered the $100,000 Betty Grable Stakes, which is basically a rubber match between two who composed the exacta in recent stakes on turf. Sneaker upset Grand Slam Smile last out in a sprint; Grand Slam Smile beat Sneaker two back in a route.

In second race back from layoff, War Bomber ready for battle

Julie Wright
War Bomber will make his second start off a layoff on Sunday at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Multiple stakes winner War Bomber continues along the comeback trail in Sunday’s Woodbine headliner. He seems ready to fire one of his better shots in the seven-furlong conditioned allowance, which has a $50,000 claiming option.

Trainer Norm McKnight claimed War Bomber for a bargain $25,000 on behalf of owner Bruno Schickedanz on Aug. 21, 2021. Three weeks later, the son of War Front beat 3-year-olds in the Toronto Cup on the grass. That was the first of three stakes scores, along with the Grade 3 Seagram Cup in 2022 and the Grade 2 King Edward in 2023.

Ourdaydreaminggirl has run very well at big prices in her last two starts, missing by just a neck last time out in the Grade 1 Cotillion.

There’s no pause button on the racing calendar. The 2025 season purportedly crescendoed into the Breeders’ Cup, but here we are, back at it again a week later. No races to decide champions on this Saturday, but the win money pays the same.

Mother Goose

As George W. Bush once intoned, “Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me – you can’t get fooled again.” While the 43rd president of the United States of America could not quite get to “fool me twice,” the filly Ourdaydreaminggirl stands poised to fool the betting public a third time in the Mother Goose.
