Weaver trio tough to separate in Key Cents

Debra A. Roma
Boomington enters Thursday's Key Cents at Aqueduct off a ninth-place finish in the Grade 2 Miss Grillo.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Trainer George Weaver sends out three runners in Thursday’s $125,000 Key Cents Stakes for New York-breds at Aqueduct and it’s not easy to separate them in the nine-horse field of 2-year-old fillies going a mile on turf.

Boomington and She’s Country were both debut winners at Saratoga before running in open company stakes. Fancy Lights took three times to win her maiden but did so nicely and the belief is she’ll handle stretching out in distance.

“Not one of them will be a shock to me if they win,” Weaver said.

Benoit Photo
Collected's career highlight came while winning the Grade 1 Pacific Classic, defeating Hall of Famer Arrogate.

In a key addition to the California stallion ranks, Grade 1 winner Collected has moved to Rancho San Miguel from Airdrie Stud in Kentucky. Collected’s 2025 progeny earnings immediately place him among the leaders in California among all stallions, regardless of progeny conception area.

The partnership formed to relocate the stallion includes California-based owner and breeder Marsha Naify, and Airdrie president Bret Jones sounded optimistic about the stallion’s continued success.

Churchill's winningest horse, Bango, is retired

Barbara D. Livingston
Bango's 12 wins Churchill broke the track’s recorded mark that he shared with Ready’s Rocket.

Bango, the winningest horse in recorded Churchill Downs history, was retired last week and could stand at stud in 2026 if a suitable deal can be found.

Bango, an 8-year-old Congrats horse, raced as a homebred for Fred and Debbie Schwartz’s Tamaroak Stable, which is seeking stallion possibilities, perhaps in regional marketplaces. For the time being, Bango remains at trainer Greg Foley’s Churchill Downs barn.

Cut the Cord not a cinch dropping off stakes win

Debra A. Roma
Cut the Cord drops from a stakes win into Wednesday's featured statebred allowance at Aqueduct.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – Though Cut the Cord is dropping out of a stakes victory and is back in a condition he has already won three times, he’s no sure thing in a New York-bred second-level allowance/optional $45,000 claiming race that is the feature on Wednesday’s nine-race card at Aqueduct.

Typically a dark day, Wednesday was added to the schedule by the New York Racing Association to make up for two canceled cards on Oct. 30-31 during the Belmont at the Big A meet. In addition, there is a $31,372 pick six carryover on Wednesday after the wager wasn’t hit Sunday.

Woodbine has an eight-race card with a first post of 5:30 p.m. on Thursday.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Trainers Kevin Attard and Mark Casse each have runners in both maiden special weight events on Thursday’s Woodbine program, which begins at 5:30 p.m. with a six-furlong sprint that contains some promising 2-year-olds.

The Attard-trained Ada Clare should be favored in her first start since a solid debut in the Oct. 12 Glorious Song Stakes. She darted out to a clear lead in the seven-furlong sprint before tiring in the final furlong to end up second behind the favored Piper’s Gift.

Raging Fury may have finally found the right field

Barbara D. Livingston
Raging Fury comes into Sunday's race off a sharp starter-allowance score.

Raging Fury has had a nightmarish time trying to break through the Florida-bred nonwinners-of-one allowance condition at Gulfsteam Park, losing six straight starts between November 2024 and August 2025. But after a victory in open company in September, trainer Nolan Ramsey thinks that the stars may finally align for the 4-year-old gelding when he returns to the statebred level in the 10th race on Sunday at Gulfstream.
