Rain likely to impact this week's races

Barbara D. Livingston
Due to impending rain, the entry schedule for this week has been altered. Three turf races are carded for Friday.

DEL MAR, Calif. – Del Mar will be wet this week, and the severity of the rainstorm that was forecast to arrive Thursday will determine the complexion of the eight races scheduled for Friday.

Six inches of rain is forecast to fall in Southern California, which forced the cancellation of the Saturday card and the postponing of the Desi Arnaz Stakes to the Sunday program. The $100,000 Desi Arnaz for 2-year-old fillies features stakes winner Himika, who will be odds-on. The Grade 3 Bob Hope for open 2-year-olds was also scheduled for Sunday but did not fill.

War Bomber, Wyoming Bill square off in rescheduled sprint

Julie Wright
War Bomber posted two narrow losses last year in a pair Grade 2 turf stakes.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – War Bomber continues along the comeback trail in Friday’s Woodbine feature. The multiple stakes winner seems ready to fire one of his better shots in the seven-furlong conditioned allowance with a $50,000 claiming option.

Trainer Norm McKnight claimed War Bomber for a bargain $25,000 on behalf of owner Bruno Schickedanz on Aug. 21, 2021. Three weeks later, the son of War Front beat 3-year-olds in the Toronto Cup on the grass. This was the first of three stakes scores, along with the Grade 3 Seagram Cup in 2022 and the Grade 2 King Edward in 2023.

Lynch to bring Wolfie's Dynaghost to Florida off near-best Beyer

Coady Media
Wolfie's Dynaghost earned a 98 Beyer Speed Figure for his victory in the River City Stakes.

Wolfie’s Dynaghost didn’t race between March 2024 and June 2025 but has come back a tiger at age 7. His first start for trainer Brian Lynch came Saturday at Churchill and yielded a front-running, 2 3/4-length victory in the River City Stakes. Wolfie’s Dynaghost beat 10 rivals and got a 98 Beyer Speed Figure, close to his career best.

“He’d been touting himself,” Lynch said.

Lynch will take Wolfie’s Dynaghost to Florida and aim for the Dec. 20 Fort Lauderdale at Gulfstream as a possible prep for the Pegasus World Cup Turf.

Colebrook has some talented 3-year-old prospects for 2026

Coady Media
Percy's Bar, who won the Alcibiades, finished third in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies.

Ben Colebrook trains a stable of fewer than 20 runners, but three are 2-year-olds who could make their presence felt in 2026.

Percy’s Bar will get a winter break after a troubled third in the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies. After being disqualified from first to second in the Grade 1 Alcibiades at Keeneland, a race in which she was best, Percy’s Bar got brushed on the first turn of the Juvenile Fillies, then mugged in upper stretch, still finishing with interest for third.

Magnitude set to battle older horses in Clark

Debra A. Roma
Risen Star winner Magnitude will take on older horses Nov. 28 at Churchill Downs in the Clark.

While a minor illness cost division leader Sovereignty a chance to face older rivals in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, his fellow 3-year-olds hardly covered themselves in Classic glory. Journalism, the Preakness winner, finished fourth, while Baeza, the Pennsylvania Derby winner, was sixth. Nevada Beach, hero of the Goodwood Stakes, finished seventh.

That’s not to say the sophomore set won’t eventually catch up to their elders, and Magnitude will get his chance against older rivals Nov. 28 at Churchill in the Grade 2, $600,000 Clark Stakes.

Top trio has something to prove in Churchill allowance

Barbara D. Livingston
Resilience has run better since trainer Bill Mott removed his blinkers two starts ago.

Big, strong, bay colt. Ran in the Kentucky Derby. Junior Alvarado rides for trainer Bill Mott.

No, Sovereignty, though he matches the description, isn’t starting in the featured eighth race on Wednesday at Churchill Downs. This is Resilience, who drew the outside post in an eight-runner field composed of six second-level, dirt-route allowance horses and two entered under the race’s $80,000 claiming option.
