Nixon finally gets Sheilahs Warcloud to two turns in Thirty Eight Go Go

Coady Media
Sheilahs Warcloud will try two turns in Sunday's Thirty Eight Go Go at Laurel Park.

Trainer Justin Nixon has been waiting some time to give Sheilahs Warcloud a chance around two turns. After 13 straight starts at a mile or shorter, the 4-year-old filly will stretch out to 1 1/16 miles as a lively contender in the $100,000 Thirty Eight Go Go Stakes on Sunday at Laurel Park.

“It just hasn’t shaken out that we’ve been able to do it,” Nixon said of an attempt around two turns. “So, you know, we tried to enter in [a conditioned allowance] this weekend and it didn’t go, so we used this as a backup plan and here we are.”

So, just how hot is it?

“Scalding,” Denali Stud’s Conrad Bandoroff said. “The demand for yearlings and the demand for weanlings is voracious.”

Bandoroff spoke after a Denali-consigned Gun Runner colt sold for $2.2 million to rank among Keeneland November’s all-time leading weanling prices.

Barbara D. Livingston
Kentucky Oaks winner Good Cheer is being rested on a Kentucky farm but will race next year at age 4.

Immersive never really got untracked this year after winning an Eclipse Award as champion 2-year-old filly of 2024. And Good Cheer had a quiet second half of her 3-year-old campaign after capturing the Kentucky Oaks. But both fillies will race on next year at age 4, trainer Brad Cox said this week.
