Dunleavy: How I'd play the Monmouth Oaks

The Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks on Saturday drew more talent than you will usually see in a $100,000 race. The 10 entrants include the top two finishers from the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks – the Bill Mott-trained Size and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Ria Antonia; the second-, third-, and fourth-place runners from the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks – Joint Return, Aibhilin, and Lady Paradime; and a promising filly making her two-turn and stakes debut, Cassatt.

Litfin: How I'd Play Saratoga on Friday, Aug. 8

On non-steeplechase days, race 5 has the potential to be a linchpin for multi-race exotics bettors, as it is positioned as the anchor leg of the early pick four and the early pick five.

Hammersly: Del Mar pick three play for Saturday, Aug. 9

The key here is Enterprising. The 3-year-old has emerged as the West’s top turf runner in his class, and while he looks like a short price to take the Grade 3 La Jolla (race 5) you can take that price and potentially turn it into quite a bit more.

Bernier: How I'd play Del Mar on Friday, Aug. 8

As a whole, the Friday card at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club doesn’t do much to entice me, but I figure I’ll put together a few early pick three tickets in hopes of making a few bucks to help lead into a nice-looking Saturday of racing from coast-to-coast.

Litfin's preview: Card features trio of turf sprints

Turf sprinters are in the spotlight early and often on Friday’s 10-race card, with divisions of 2-year-old maidens in races 2 and 4 and New York-bred preliminary-allowance fillies and mares going in race 8.

Gierkink's preview: Jockey colony a little light

There are a host of riders who will miss some time here in the next few days for various reasons. Patrick Husbands is serving a suspension Friday, Saturday, and Wednesday. He has an exemption to ride Queen’s Plate winner Lexie Lou in Sunday’s $250,000 Wonder Where Stakes.
