The Grade 3 Monmouth Oaks on Saturday drew more talent than you will usually see in a $100,000 race. The 10 entrants include the top two finishers from the Grade 3 Iowa Oaks – the Bill Mott-trained Size and Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies winner Ria Antonia; the second-, third-, and fourth-place runners from the Grade 2 Delaware Oaks – Joint Return, Aibhilin, and Lady Paradime; and a promising filly making her two-turn and stakes debut, Cassatt.
On non-steeplechase days, race 5 has the potential to be a linchpin for multi-race exotics bettors, as it is positioned as the anchor leg of the early pick four and the early pick five.

The key here is Enterprising. The 3-year-old has emerged as the West’s top turf runner in his class, and while he looks like a short price to take the Grade 3 La Jolla (race 5) you can take that price and potentially turn it into quite a bit more.
Four of the eight races Friday at Del Mar are for maidens. It is time to preview the card. First post is 4 p.m.
As a whole, the Friday card at the Del Mar Thoroughbred Club doesn’t do much to entice me, but I figure I’ll put together a few early pick three tickets in hopes of making a few bucks to help lead into a nice-looking Saturday of racing from coast-to-coast.
