Clocker: Impressions of Saturday BC contenders

The first local appearance by Shared Belief was the highlight of Thursday morning’s training activity at Santa Anita, a session that also included a sharp blowout by Sprint contender Rich Tapestry and the opening of the unique downhill turf course for the only time this week.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Turf wagering strategy

The full field for the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf is such a well-matched group that it’s difficult to narrow the options down to just a handful of runners. There are 10 stakes winners entered, and of them, seven have accounted for group or graded races. In addition, eight entrants last raced in Europe. Breeders' Cup Classic wagering strategy

The undefeated Shared Belief is going to be the clear-cut favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and even his detractors (Are there any? How could there be?) would probably concede that it is impossible to rule him out of the number, whether you are engaging in horizontal or vertical wagers.

Litfin: Santa Anita pick four play for Friday, Oct. 31

It sure seems like the 2-year-old grass races with 14-horse fields are the spots to cast a wide net in the Breeders’ Cup Friday pick four, while there is considerably more to go on in the Dirt Mile and Distaff.

Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf wagering strategy

SUNSET GLOW is the deserving 7-2 morning-line favorite, but she has history working against her as the favorite hasn’t won the Juvenile Fillies Turf since it was established in 2008. She also reportedly did not eat up after arriving in California, and trainer Wesley Ward altered her training schedule, missing a planned workout. Daily Racing Form’s Mile Welsch also mentioned she looked listless on the track in one of his clocker reports. Despite her excellent record, she looks vulnerable in what appears to be a wide-open race.

Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Sprint wagering strategy

A deep search for the true speed in this fascinating renewal of the Breeders’ Cup Filly and Mare Sprint finds this conclusion: It should very well be Stonetastic (#3), hurried up the rail by Paco Lopez, followed closely by a trio of mid-drawn runners: Artemis Agrotera (#5), Leigh Court (#6), and Judy the Beauty (#7).
