I’m well aware that New York trainer David Jacobson hasn’t gotten away to the quickest of starts with his new venture in Southern California, but COOPER’S STORM (1) in race 2 on Sunday really piques the interest when getting first-time Lasix (remarkably, after 47 starts) and the bugboy Cohen on the fence.

MOHAYMEN picked right up at 3 where he left off at 2, with another victory, this perhaps the most impressive of his four-race career. He is clearly the top-ranked Kentucky Derby prospect on the East Coast, and until male 2-year-old champion Nyquist makes his first start at age 3 later this month, a case can be made that Mohaymen is the top-ranked Derby contender, period.
For a homebred who was risked for $40,000 in his debut, SUNNY RIDGE certainly has proven to be a pleasant surprise, with this victory pushing him past the $500,000 mark in career earnings. He has finished first or second in five of six starts.
