BreezeFigs Quick-Pix for February 13th by Bob Fierro and Jay Kilgore
In last week’s Pick we thought that Echo Chamber would go to the lead and Georgia Blue would hold back and come on to be stronger at the finish. What happened was that Echo Chamber got off slowly and never got into the hunt while Georgia Blue pressed the pace and just didn’t have enough gas left to hold off a 13-to-1 first timer, but she did finish second, also at 13-to-1 to complete a $132 exacta for a buck. (The winner, First Watch, looks good and this could become a key race). Thank heavens for small favors. It was a fairly light week otherwise with four BreezeFigs maidens scoring (two at Gulfstream, one at Golden Gate, one at Oaklawn), but it was also a light week for opportunity. Today’s card is also a bit light, and we hope the weather holds out so all the races can go—including the one we’ve focused on, see below. Good luck!
If you’d like to learn a little more about how we come up with BreezeFigs, take a look at our new website by clicking here: www.biodatatrack.com and click on the tab BreezeFigs at the top of the page. In there you will find a link to a major study of how over 17,000 BreezeFigs horses from the sales 2007 through 2013 have succeeded on the racetrack based on Group and stride length. You can also access that study by clicking this link: www.biodatatrack.com/BreezeFigs-Study.pdf.
Here’s Saturday’s Pick: Aqueduct, 4th Race, Maiden Special Weight (New York-Breds), 6 Furlongs (Inner Dirt)
The only two BreezeFigs fillies in this one will be making their debuts, and they are basically even all around. Picco Uno chalked up a two-over-Par Group 2 card at EASMAY on the dirt where her 23.86 foot stride length (SL) was about a third of a foot longer than average for fillies that day at one furlong. Woodford Tea, on the other hand, showed enough speed to come in at Group 3 with just one-under-Par profile at OBSAPR on synthetic, but her effort was compromised by a 21.96 foot SL, which was more than three-quarters of a foot shorter than average for fillies that day at one furlong. Neither one of them, however, was sold (RNA), so the fact that they went through these sales is not reflected in the PPs. The morning line has Woodford Tea at 3-to-1 and Picco Uno at 12-to-1—both are good gimmick plays, but we like the latter as a key. Good luck!
