ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Tyson won’t have to deal with his archrival and stablemate Treason in Saturday’s $175,000 Seagram Cup at Woodbine, since Treason wasn’t entered in the Grade 2 stakes.

Tyson should be odds-on under Rafael Hernandez, who was aboard when the flashy Tapit colt came from midpack to finish third behind Treason in his stakes debut in the Grade 2 Eclipse here June 4.

Miss Dynamic will drop from stakes competition into the allowance ranks for Saturday’s six-furlong feature at Emerald Downs.

A daughter of Dynamic Impact, Miss Dynamic figures to be the quickest from the gate and for a change won’t have to chase Aloha Breeze, the best 3-year-old filly on the grounds. Aloha Breeze has won both stakes run for the division here this meet. In both races, Miss Dynamic took the role of chasing Aloha Breeze through lively early splits, an assignment that took its toll on Miss Dynamic in the Kent Stakes two weeks ago.

SARATOGA SPRINGS, N.Y. – With Saturday’s Grade 2 Jim Dandy never under serious consideration, Belmont Stakes winner Arcangelo continued preparations for his lone goal here this summer, the Grade 1 Travers, breezing five furlongs in 1:01.27 seconds before galloping out in impressive fashion once again, with jockey Javier Castellano aboard, shortly after the renovation break Wednesday at Saratoga.

Six days after sending out one champion to victory in Saratoga, owner Mike Repole hopes to hit the replay button Saturday, when Forte heads a field of five entered Wednesday for Saturday’s Grade 2, $500,000 Jim Dandy Stakes.

There appears to be an abundance of speed in Friday’s seventh race at Gulfstream Park, and if the pace players make for quick fractions it could set the table for Vai Bella.

Vai Bella figures to be making her bid from off the pace in the $35,000 starter allowance for fillies and mares over 5 1/2 furlongs on Tapeta. The race has an optional claiming price for 3-year-olds of $35,000.

Larry Bates, who spent more than six decades in the racing business, first as a jockey and exercise rider, then as a trainer on the South Florida circuit since 1993, died earlier this week following a long illness. He was 77.

Bates galloped horses for some of the country’s top trainers, including Allen Jerkens and E. I. Kelly Sr. among others. He was the leading apprentice rider in New England during his younger days before eventually moving on to the steeplechase circuit due to weight issues, according to his longtime friend, former trainer E.I. Kelly Jr.
