Touchuponastar likely for New Orleans Classic with Star Guitar as backup

Touchuponastar was a romping winner last out in the Louisiana Premier Night Championship at Delta Downs.

Touchuponastar, who put up the year’s highest Beyer Speed Figure in a two-turn race last month at Delta Downs, is on pace to make his next start closing weekend at Fair Grounds, according to his owner, Jake Delhomme.

Touchuponastar earned a Beyer of 106 for his 11 1/2-length win in the Louisiana Premier Night Championship on Feb. 7. He won under his regular rider, Timothy Thornton, who also often works Touchuponastar for trainer Jeff Delhomme. Touchuponastar has since been breezing at his base of Copper Crowne Training Center in Opelousas, La.

Baffert pondering next start for Explora with Fantasy a possibility

Yours Sincerely returns to stakes company in China Doll

Grade 3 winner Himika raced on turf for the first time in the Sweet Life, closing from eighth to finish second.

Yours Sincerely ended a three-race losing streak, all in stakes, with a half-length win in an allowance at six furlongs on turf Jan. 11 at Santa Anita.

The victory has put Yours Sincerely in another stakes in Sunday’s $100,000 China Doll Stakes for 3-year-old fillies at a mile on turf at Santa Anita. This time, Yours Sincerely may be a more determined filly, trainer Phil D’Amato said Friday.

“I was impressed” with her last start, he said. “She faced a little bit of adversity and ran down a horse that didn’t want to be run down. I like what I saw.”

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Stars and Stripes on Sunday will attempt to be the second Bill Mott trainee to win at Oaklawn Park after running in a Jan. 16 allowance at Gulfstream Park.

The first was Batten Down, who after his third-place finish in the 1 1/16-mile route won by Solo Venturi returned to win the $135,000 Pig Trail on March 1 at Oaklawn. The overnight stakes was run over 1 1/2 miles, and Batten Down earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 99.

Black Hornet may switch from turf to synthetic and make his next start in the Jeff Ruby Steaks on March 21 at Turfway Park.

Bella Ballerina remains right on target for the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 21, and her trainer, Brendan Walsh, will be in other 3-year-old stakes action that day, too.

Walsh said there’s a good chance that Black Hornet, a closing 1 3/4-length winner of the Black Gold on Feb. 28, will switch from turf to synthetic and make his next start in the Jeff Ruby Steaks on March 21 at Turfway Park. The Calumet Farm homebred lost his first four races before landing a Fair Grounds turf maiden race and winning the Black Gold with an 85 Beyer Speed Figure.

Off a puzzling effort, Super Corredora has something to prove in Santa Ysabel

ARCADIA, Calif. – Super Corredora has something to prove on Sunday. Winner of the Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies last fall, she makes her second start of the season in the Grade 3 Santa Ysabel at Santa Anita, which was not on her original itinerary.

After Super Corredora sputtered in her February comeback, trainer John Sadler revised her campaign.

“Things changed,” Sadler said.
