Couple of beauties loom large in sprint

Barbara D. Livingston
Beauty Reigns is making her first start since finishing third in the Grade 1 Test on Aug. 2 at Saratoga.

HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – Oaklawn Park announcer Matt Dinerman could be calling Beauty Reigns and Beautiful Twice quite often during the $125,000 featured eighth race Thursday.

The 4-year-olds are chief contenders in the six-furlong allowance for fillies and mares who have never won three races. A field of seven is set to start, including overnight stakes winner Miss Martini and the stakes-placed fillies Blue Squall and Quantum Burst.

Book'em Danno to return in either Carter or Commonwealth

Debra A. Roma
Book’em Danno has not run since winning the Forego last Aug. 23 at Saratoga, one of three stakes he won there last summer.

Book’em Danno, the champion sprinter of 2025, was not entered in Friday’s Boston Handicap at Colonial Downs, so his return to the races will come in either the Carter Stakes at Aqueduct or the Commonwealth at Keeneland.

Both stakes are run at seven furlongs on April 4. The Grade 3 Commonwealth, at $350,000, is worth $50,000 more than the Grade 2 Carter.

“Whichever is the easiest of the two,” trainer Derek Ryan said. “I’ll watch the weather and stuff like that. I’ve got a couple of New York-breds that I got to bring back [to New York].”

A runner-up in three of his last four starts going one mile, Mo for the King will shorten up to six furlongs as he tries to get the second win of his career in a starter allowance for New York-breds which poses as the feature on Thursday’s seven-race Aqueduct card.

Disruptor, Grande could fill the void for Pletcher, Repole

Tom Keyser
After winning the Challenger at Tampa Bay, Disruptor is targeting the Churchill Downs Stakes.

Trainer Todd Pletcher and owner Mike Repole retired Grade 1 winners Fierceness and Mindframe following 2025, but their cupboard is not bare of talented older dirt males.

Disruptor won his first graded stakes Saturday when he beat heavily favored Disco Time in the Grade 3, $100,000 Challenger Stakes. His final time of 1:41.40 was just .20 off the track record and earned Disruptor a 102 Beyer Speed Figure.

Last month, Grande won a second-level allowance at Gulfstream Park, his third victory from four career starts and one in which he earned a 105 Beyer Speed Figure.

Silver Moonlight is one of the contenders in Wednesday's featured allowance at Tampa Bay Downs.

OLDSMAR, Fla. – Rugelach has run too good to lose in her first two starts for trainer and part-owner Sam Wilensky, but the 6-year-old mare finished second in both races.

On Wednesday, Rugelach looks well spotted to earn her first victory for Wilensky – and first since Sept. 24 – in a second-level allowance scheduled for one mile on the turf at Tampa Bay Downs. Turf racing should resume Wednesday after rain forced the last race on Saturday’s card and all of Sunday’s scheduled turf races to the dirt.

Money Run gets a chance to go even longer in Golden Horseshoe

Coady Media
Having proven he wants to go long, Money Run stretches to 1 3/8 miles for Thursday's Golden Horseshoe at Colonial Downs.

Since claiming Money Run for $40,000 in June 2024, trainer Peter Miller has gradually transformed the gelding from a middling sprinter to a seasoned route runner. The culmination of that process could come at Colonial Downs on Thursday, when the 6-year-old will stretch out to 1 3/8 miles in the $100,000 Golden Horseshoe Handicap.

“Even though he’s by Runhappy, who was a champion sprinter, he really seems to like going long,” Miller said. “We’re thinking the farther, the better. He’s a horse that pretty much needs the lead, but he’s very, very fast, so we’ll let him ramble.”
