The Tampa Bay Derby will be Further Ado's first start since he won the Grade 2 Kentucky Jockey Club on Nov. 29. After a slow start to the Derby prep season, Further Ado's trainer, Brad Cox, won last Saturday's Fountain of Youth with Commandment.

After some disappointing results in several points-scoring races, trainer Brad Cox started to get concerned about his prospects of participating in Kentucky Derby 152.

“You start worrying, how good’s your group?” said Cox, who watched horses such as Cannoneer, Confessional, Quiet Mischief, Rancho Santa Fe, and My World fail to make an impact in recent Derby preps. “You start getting a little concerned because it is important to me. . . . The Kentucky Derby and Kentucky Oaks mean a lot to me and our team.”

Sassy Princess gets another two-turn dirt try

Sassy Princess gets another try going two turns on dirt in Friday's feature at Aqueduct.

Sassy Princess may have been no match for Lost Horizon when she tried two turns on dirt for the first time three weeks ago. But there does not appear to be anyone the quality of Lost Horizon when Sassy Princess takes another crack at two turns in Friday’s first-level allowance feature going 1 1/8 miles at Aqueduct.

Skinny tickets could take down pick six with $45,603 carryover

City Exile will look to make it back-to-back wins in Friday's seventh race at Santa Anita.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The pick six on Friday at Santa Anita is not that difficult, and the $45,603 carryover is not that big. But it’s big enough.

By the time CAWs flood the pool in the final minutes before the first leg, $250,000 in new money is expected. A similar Friday carryover of $34,288 on Feb. 20 generated $206,561 in new money, and the $2 pick six paid $417.60 with four winning favorites and two second-choice winners. It was a good result for small tickets.

When the unbeaten colt So Happy starts Saturday in the Grade 2 San Felipe Stakes at Santa Anita, Dena Glatt will be on the minds of many.

ARCADIA, Calif. – The last time trainer Mark Glatt and his children saw his wife, their mother, was the evening of Feb. 11. Dena Glatt, a patient at USC Arcadia Hospital, was blowing kisses from her hospital bed.

Across the street at Santa Anita, Glatt’s 3-year-old colt So Happy was safely tucked away in his stall. So Happy had won his first two starts, including the Grade 2 San Vicente Stakes a month earlier. Things were looking up.

Luv Your Neighbor (left) finished second last out to Bella Ballerina (right) in the Rachel Alexandra at Fair Grounds.

The 3-year-old filly Luv Your Neighbor has, remarkably, finished second four times during this Fair Grounds meet. She’s unlikely to do so again because Luv Your Neighbor probably won’t contest the Fair Grounds Oaks on March 21, trainer Michael Stidham said Monday.
