Hit Parade moves back to turf for Cleopatra

Coady Media
After trying the Kentucky Oaks trail, Hit Parade moves back to turf for Wednesday's Cleopatra at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

Hit Parade, who won a prep for this year’s Kentucky Oaks, will switch back to turf Wednesday for the $150,000 Cleopatra Handicap at Horseshoe Indianapolis.

The race is one of three stakes on an 11-race card that begins at 2:10 p.m. Eastern. The $55,000 Corningstone and $55,000 Onesmoothoperator are sprints for 3-year-olds and up bred in Indiana. There is little chance of rain in the forecast.

The Cleopatra features 3-year-old fillies at a mile on turf. It drew a field of 11 that includes the unbeaten East Jabip and the royally bred Soloist.

Good Magic can follow in Curlin's hoofprints with personal Triple Crown

Barbara D. Livingston
Preakness hopeful Talkin can complete his sire Good Magic's personal Triple Crown, a feat accomplished by his sire Curlin.

Hall of Famer Curlin completed his personal Triple Crown as a sire when his son Golden Tempo won the Kentucky Derby earlier this month. Now, Curlin’s champion son Good Magic will try to keep the magic going as he looks to pull the same trick with Talkin in this Saturday’s Preakness Stakes.

Delaware Park opens its 89th season of live racing on Wednesday.

Delaware Park will kick off its 89th season of live racing with an eight-race card Wednesday. Jamie Ness, who won his 11th straight training title at the track last year, has four horses entered, including the morning-line favorites in the first three races.

“That’s always good,” Ness said, laughing. “We’re in a good spot that way. We’ve been at Delaware for quite a few years now. I live in Maryland, but it’s the closest, kind of my home track.”

Bricklin tests track in Long Branch with eye to the Haskell

Debra A. Roma
Coming off a 15 1/2-length victory in the City of Brotherly Love at Parx, Red Zone Runner finished last in the Wood.

Bricklin came up short of Kentucky Derby contention when he finished fourth in the Grade 1 Arkansas Derby last time out, but trainer Rodolphe Brisset is already looking ahead. The colt will cut back to a mile and 70 yards with a class edge in the $100,000 Long Branch Stakes on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

“He’s a good horse with tactical speed, can rate well, doesn’t have to be on the lead, but can go if they give it to him,” Brisset said. “He’s pretty easy to ride.”

I'm Ready to Go enters off key, foggy race

Adam Coglianese/NYRA
Integration, who won an allowance race on Thursday at Aqueduct, will be pointed toward the Arlington Million at Colonial Downs.

OZONE PARK, N.Y. – The fog may have obscured proper viewing of the ninth race on March 7 at Aqueduct. But the perusal of the chart and DRF Formulator give a clearer picture of the how good a first-level allowance race it turned out to be.

The race was won by Porosity, who was one of four horses to come back and win their next starts. The runner-up was I’m Ready to Go, who will seek to become the fifth next-out winner from that seemingly key race in Sunday’s featured first-level allowance for males 3-years-old and up going a mile at Aqueduct.

Preakness 2026: Baffert reroutes Crude Velocity to Woody Stephens; Silent Tactic works

Crude Velocity wins Pat Day Mile at Cd May 2 2026
Debra A. Roma
Crude Velocity is perfect in three starts, including a 3 3/4-length victory in the Pat Day Mile (above), but is yet to race around two turns.

Believing it would be “too much too soon,” trainer Bob Baffert on Friday said that undefeated 3-year-old Crude Velocity would skip the Preakness Stakes on May 16 at Laurel Park and likely point to the Grade 1 Woody Stephens on June 6 at Saratoga.

Baffert announced his decision Friday morning on the “At the Races” radio show hosted by Steve Byk.

Distance could be an issue for Totally Justified

Barbara D. Livingston
Totally Justified likely needs more than a mile to show her best.

Good luck parsing the featured eighth race Sunday at Churchill. The first-level turf mile allowance drew an overflow field of 16 and, on paper, looks wildly competitive.

A dozen can start in the race, and Icona, who might be favored for trainer Brendan Walsh and jockey Tyler Gaffalione, got stuck on the also-eligible list, requiring two scratches to make the field.

Totally Justified raced in graded stakes company her last nine starts, most recently finishing sixth Dec. 28 in the Grade 1 American Oaks over 1 1/4 miles – and there’s the rub.

Walden eyeing Manhattan for Rhetorical

Barbara D. Livingston
Rhetorical earned a career-best 107 Beyer Speed Figure in the Grade 1 Turf Classic.

Rhetorical came out of his brilliant May 2 victory in the Grade 1 Turf Classic so well that connections tentatively plan to run him back June 6 in the $1 million Manhattan at Saratoga.

The Turf Classic marked Rhetorical’s first try over a distance as long as 1 1/8 miles, and for the first time in his nine-start career, he led. Rather than posing a challenge, the new circumstances elevated Rhetorical to a 3 1/4-length score and a career-best 107 Beyer Speed Figure.

Dusting off his Derby disappointment, Cox presses on with plans

Barbara D. Livingston
Commandment could run in the Belmont after a tough-trip seventh in the Kentucky Derby.

Brad Cox did not notch his first outright Kentucky Derby win last weekend, but he still has a loaded stable and is hatching plans for his two Derby runners and a host of other high-level performers.

Cox, who won the 2021 Derby with Mandaloun after Medina Spirit was disqualified for a positive drug test, had to scratch Fulleffort from the Derby when the colt was diagnosed with a chipped ankle, leaving him with two Derby starters. Further Ado, the most tepid of favorites at 5-1, finished 13th, while Commandment, the 6-1 fourth choice, was seventh with a tough trip.
