OZONE PARK, N.Y. – With the Angels, who has lost her last two starts after winning her first five, looks to get back to the winner’s circle Thursday in a second-level allowance/optional $75,000 claimer that serves as the feature and final race on Thursday’s eight-race Aqueduct program.

While there figures to be some drama in categories such as older dirt male, jockey, and perhaps trainer, Thursday’s Eclipse Awards ceremony in South Florida is expected to be another big night for Godolphin, the global racing and breeding operation of Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum, the ruling leader of Dubai.

The speedy and well-traveled Uncashed makes a return visit to Tampa Bay Downs on Wednesday, where the 6-year-old gelding seeks his 13th career victory in a multi-conditioned allowance/optional $100,000 claimer over six furlongs that serves as the feature on a nine-race card.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – The pace should be honest when a stakes-quality field of filly and mare turf specialists go a mile under allowance and optional-claiming conditions in Sunday’s $87,000 headliner at Gulfstream Park.

A field of 11 has signed on for the race, several of whom are usually most effective when on or near the lead in their respective races. The group includes Stormcast, Spinning Colors, Macanga, and Tour Jete.

Trainer Dick Cappellucci has been on a roll and will attempt to keep his hot hand going Monday when he saddles Caprock Cutie in the $80,000 La Senora at Sunland Park.

The race for 3-year-old fillies at six furlongs is one of two New Mexico-bred stakes on the card. The $80,000 Corralito Steak House will be run at the same distance for 3-year-olds.

The stakes figure to produce starters for the respective $100,000 Peppers Pride and $100,000 Red Hedeman Mile on the Sunland Derby undercard Feb. 15.

The trainer Michael Stidham has two talented 4-year-old grass horses in his Fair Grounds barn, and while both should race in February, Stidham isn’t sure when and where that will happen.

Tom’s Magic, undone by a tough trip, finished second in the $1 million King’s Plate in August, and in his most recent start on Nov. 29 missed by a neck in the Grade 1 Hollywood Derby. He has worked twice in January toward his 4-year-old debut.

The connections of the 5-year-old mare Lotsandlotsofcandy were willing to try their horse on turf last weekend in the Nelson Menard Memorial but did not at all mind the Menard getting rained off grass. That made Lotsandlotsofcandy an odds-on favorite, and she ran her career record to 6-4-1-0 while winning her stakes debut by 4 1/2 lengths and earning a career-best 96 Beyer Speed Figure.

Trainer Steve Asmussen has been winning the Riley Allison at Sunland Park since it was a race for 2-year-olds.

He’s kept on winning it since it was reshaped into a 3-year-old prep for the Sunland Park Derby, and on Sunday will attempt to win a ninth Riley Allison when he saddles Way Beyond.

The $100,000 Riley Allison Derby is a one-mile race that anchors Sunday’s card of four stakes designed to serve as stepping-stones to the Sunland Derby Day card of six stakes on Feb. 15.
