Hawthorne Racecourse in Stickney, Ill., and Churchill Downs Inc. have reached an agreement to restore CDI’s signals to Hawthorne and its Chicago-area off-track betting parlors. The restoration of the agreement means bettors at Hawthorne or one of the 11 OTBs that Hawthorne operates throughout the metro Chicago area will be able to wager on the Kentucky Oaks card on Friday and the Kentucky Derby card on Saturday.

Right to Party, runner-up in the Grade 2 Wood Memorial, was scratched from Saturday’s Kentucky Derby due to lameness in his right foreleg, opening a spot for Robusta to join the field. Kenny McPeek, the trainer of Right to Party, said regulatory veterinarians who look at the Derby horses all week told him that Right to Party was lame in his right front.

Nycon was scratched from tonight's Kentucky Oaks on the morning of the race, leaving a field of 13 to contest the filly classic. Trainer Whit Beckman said Friday morning that there is no injury or real physical issue with Nycon, who was most recently fourth in the Grade 2 Gazelle Stakes.
Croix du Nord was the champion 2-year-old male in Japan in 2024, the winner of the 2025 Japanese Derby, and a Grade 1 winner earlier this year in the $3.6 million Osaka Hai at Hanshin Racecourse in April. On Sunday at Kyoto Racecourse, Croix du Nord has a different assignment – starting for the first time at two miles in the Grade 1 spring running of the Tenno Sho.

Veteran trainer Ron Coyne Jr. doesn't have the size or scope of most major trotting outfits, but that hasn't stopped him from coming up with horses of superior talent racing in New Jersey. A few years ago, Coyne had the sophomore Southwind Admiral poised for the Yonkers Trot following a promising 2-year-old season. That son of Tactical Landing suffered an injury that curtailed his sophomore season.
