Colonial scoots up start times to avoid extreme heat

Colonial Downs announced it will adjust post times for its Thursday, Friday, and Saturday cards to account for extreme heat forecasts. The first post each day will now be 10:45 a.m., with the last race going off at approximately 2 p.m.
Sunday’s card is currently slated to begin at 12:30 p.m., as scheduled. Saturday’s card will feature two $125,000 stakes, the Miss Disco and Star De Naskra.
Colonial is one of several tracks in the Mid-Atlantic region which has adjusted its schedule to account for the heat wave, which is expected to affect most of the East Coast through Saturday evening.
Parx Racing has canceled its Thursday card and moved up first post on Wednesday to 10:40 a.m.
Delaware announced Monday that it was canceling its Thursday and Friday cards and adjusting post times for Wednesday and Saturday. The Wednesday card will begin at 11 a.m. and run until 3 p.m., while the Fourth of July card on Saturday will be reduced to six races and run from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.
