The first stakes race on Kentucky Oaks Day gets underway in the fifth with the La Troienne, and in what has become all too common in Grade 1 races for older fillies and mares, the field is short.
A pair of wins by high-class turf runners, Regally Ready and Jack Milton, highlighted the Thursday card at Churchill Downs.
Once again, all three scheduled turf races have been moved to the main track. At least that will have no bearing on the $100,000 Affirmed Success Stakes (race 3), which attracted a field of six older New York-bred sprinters.
After several inches of rain on Wednesday, all three scheduled turf races including the featured $100,000 Elusive Quality Stakes were switched to the main track.
