Multirace exotic bettors of any persuasion will have a tough time finding free bingo squares on Thursday’s card. The four shortest-priced favorites on the morning line – Silver Morgan (1st), Dragonberry (2nd), Son of a General (3rd) and B Shanny (5th) – are all listed at 2-1 and are all in the pick five.
Deep Dive, the 2-1 morning-line favorite for the first race, a $5,000 claiming event, presents kind of a tough evaluation for horseplayers. Although he stands out on form and speed figures, he comes to Churchill Downs after having raced at Louisiana Downs.
It is worth noting that two-turn speed on the main track has been downright powerful – 21 of the 24 races at one mile have been won by a horse positioned within two lengths of the lead after the first half-mile. Ten were won in gate-to-wire fashion.

Huronia, the 5-2 morning-line chalk in the sixth, is a viable single in the pick four, which has a guaranteed pool of $100,000. She came from midpack over a speed-favoring track to end up second when returning from a 10-month layoff June 4 and is getting another beneficial half-furlong to work with here. Her trainer, Stu Simon, has been on a roll of late, and his numbers with runners making their second start off the shelf are good.
