With one week left before the 155th running of the $1 million Queen’s Plate, many of the contenders took to the track this weekend for their final works.
The last of 38 racing days of the spring meet at Churchill Downs comes today, and as is customary for tracks when they end their meets, there are mandatory payouts in the gimmick wagers that otherwise go forward with a carryover.
The racing office did pick six players a favor by carding a maiden special-weight sprint for New York-breds (race 4) as the opening leg, as any among a large handful of fast-working first-time starters may or may not prove to be live on the tote board.

Woodbine announced Friday that the Jackpot Hi 5 will have a mandatory payout on the $1 million Queen’s Plate itself. After Sunday, wagering will be suspended on the wager until the July 6 Plate, and the carryover heading into the 10th race Sunday is $244,421.
