The first three races are on dirt Saturday at Belmont Park, so there’s the play: the early pick three starting in the opener.
Some tough races comprise the final pick three of the day, but they also are big fields, meaning better opportunities for a price.
Despite overnight rain, the scheduled turf races at Keeneland on Friday remain on the grass – at least as of this writing at 10:30 a.m. Eastern. But horseplayers are advised to keep close tabs on the weather, should any more rain fall and conditions change.
Without being locked into anything, below is how this handicapper plans to manage the Saturday card at Santa Anita. Races 2, 5 and 6 are mainly for action. The value is on races 8 and 9.

A two-day pick six carryover of $47,491 is on tap Friday at Belmont Park. The sequence begins with race 4 at 2:23 p.m. Eastern.
There are several 2-year-olds going long for the first time in the second race on Friday who are bred for the task at hand. Several could be competitive at juicy prices in the Ontario-sired maiden special at 1 1/16 miles.
Ball Dancing is worth a bet at 7-2 or higher in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
I’m going with the intriguing Speed Seeker, who has shown plenty of ability after only three starts and might have the highest ceiling of anyone in the Queen Elizabeth II Challenge Cup at Keeneland.
With rain, rain, and more rain in the forecast for the coming days in this region, Thursday’s races at Keeneland might be the last run on a fast track this week. And for that matter, some of the scheduled turf races from Friday to Sunday could be in jeopardy, too.
