D’code put up the year’s second-highest Beyer Speed Figure for a 2-year-old when winning his debut Sunday at Oaklawn Park and plans are to advance to one of the track’s Kentucky Derby points races next month, according to trainer Ray Ashford Jr.

D’code earned a Beyer of 99 for winning a maiden special weight at six furlongs, two points below the 101 that Brant earned for his debut win in July at Del Mar. D’code covered six furlongs in 1:09.57 while winning off by more than 8 1/4 lengths under Cristian Torres.

Sharp Swinger has more natural speed than a number of his key rivals in the $135,000 Silks overnight stakes and that might give him a tactical advantage on Friday at Oaklawn Park, where he is 2 for 2.

The Silks is a six-furlong race for 3-year-olds who have not won a stakes other than statebred. It’s part of the new $1 pick six sequence that has a three-day carryover of $45,113.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Florida Derby winner Tappan Street, the only competitor to finish in front of likely Horse of the Year Sovereignty in 2025, will launch his highly anticipated comeback as an overwhelming favorite going a mile under optional claiming and allowance conditions Friday at Gulfstream Park. Despite the imposing presence of Tappan Street, the race has attracted a field of seven to vie for a $58,000 purse.

After a tumultuous stakes debut at Gulfstream Park, the 3-year-old filly Phoenix of Wit will try to find more forgiving company in a $55,000 allowance at a mile on turf Wednesday at Tampa Bay Downs.

Trainer Joseph Orseno expected his Irish-bred to finish far better in the $75,000 Cellars Shiraz on Oct. 31, but she faded to eighth that day after pressing for the early lead.

Jockey Jareth Loveberry notched the 2,000th win of his career last Friday at Fair Grounds. This Thursday at Fair Grounds, Loveberry has two key mounts – one you could bet on, the other you might bet against – in the co-featured seventh and eighth races.

Mahoning Valley, which canceled Monday’s program due to winter weather, is expected to be back in action in the middle of the week, including a Thursday card featuring two Ohio-accredited stakes.

Following a frigid weekend in much of Kentucky and Ohio, the high temperature forecast for Monday in Youngstown, Ohio, was 20 degrees. Mahoning was scheduled to race on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. The high for Thursday is forecasted at 48 degrees, with rain in the area.

The consistent and versatile Double Your Money looks to cap a terrific 4-year-old season when he makes a return trip to New York to run in a first-level allowance/optional $50,000 claiming race that serves as the feature on Sunday’s eight-race Aqueduct card.

Sunday’s card is the final program before racing on this circuit takes an 11-day break with racing scheduled to resume Dec. 26.
