One day after a European record price was set during the opening session of the Tattersalls October yearling sale, a daughter of Coolmore sire Galileo shattered that new benchmark by selling to Qatari Sheikh Joaan al-Thani’s Al Shaqab Racing during Wednesday’s second Book One session for five million guineas (about $8.38 million).
The catalog for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale continues to expand, with three more high-profile additions on Wednesday: Danceinthesunlight, Mi Vida, and Champagne d’Oro.

Three horses sold for $100,000 or more to lead Monday’s second annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed and horses of racing age sale, which concluded with gains in gross and average, a modest decline in median, and an improved buyback rate.
Just as last month’s Keeneland September yearling sale served as a comprehensive barometer of the North American market, so too will the Tattersalls October yearling auction, the majority of which is scheduled to be held over the next two weeks, test the strength and stability of the European market.
