The third of four Book 2 sessions at the Tattersalls October yearling sale, held Wednesday in Newmarket, continued the trends from the preceding sessions, with double-digit gains in gross, average, and median supported by a low buyback rate.
The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. kicked off its two-day fall mixed sale with a consignor-preferred session on Tuesday that posted gains in gross, average, and median compared with last year’s opener, headlined by a six-figure weanling daughter of current leading North American sire Kitten’s Joy.
The second of four Book 2 sessions at the Tattersalls October yearling sale in Newmarket, England, concluded with across-the-board gains and a lower buyback rate than the comparable 2012 session. Although the gains were smaller than Monday’s opening Book 2 session, trade at the upper end of the market was more active, with five horses surpassing the 200,000-guinea mark compared with only one on Monday.
A High Chaparral colt sold for 275,000 guineas (about $461,500) to lead Monday’s first Book Two session of the Tattersalls October yearling sale, which followed last week’s record-setting Book One session and improved significantly on the first Book Two session of the 2012 sale in all major economic indicators.
As the North American sales calendar begins to turn from the yearling season into the breeding stock season, Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. President Tom Ventura is hopeful that the run of good fortune established in recent auctions will carry into the OBS fall mixed sale.
Horses to watch at the OBS fall mixed sale.
Three more offerings have been added as supplemental entries to the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale catalog, to be held Monday, Nov. 4 in Lexington, Ky. The catalog will now include Grade 1 producer Mo Chuisle, the winning filly Amazing Shoes, and a half-sister to Grade 2 winner Corfu.
Equine Sales Company of Louisiana, which launched operations last fall, has catalogued 180 horses for a yearling and mixed sale to be held Oct. 28 at its auction house in Opelousas, La. The sale will begin at 12 p.m. Central.
Although no additional records were set during Thursday’s final Book One section of the Tattersalls October yearling sale in Newmarket, England overall trade continued at a highly-contested level, concluding the three-day section with gains in gross, average, and median.
