A colt by The Pamplemousse sold for $160,000 at Tuesday’s Barretts October yearling sale at Fairplex Park in Pomona, Calif., the only horse to sell for six figures at an auction that showed across-the-board declines from 2012.
The Tattersalls October yearling sale got off to an historic start on Tuesday when a colt by elite sire Galileo sold to Coolmore for a European record price of 3.6 million guineas (about $6.08 million). The record yearling paced an opening session of the three-day Book One section that surpassed the 2012 opener in gross, average, and median.
Three horses sold for $100,000 or more to lead Monday’s second annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed and horses of racing age sale, which concluded with gains in gross and average, a modest decline in median, and an improved buyback rate.
Just as last month’s Keeneland September yearling sale served as a comprehensive barometer of the North American market, so too will the Tattersalls October yearling auction, the majority of which is scheduled to be held over the next two weeks, test the strength and stability of the European market.
Golden Artemis, the dam of Grade 1 winner My Conquestadory, and her weanling filly by Desert Party have been added to the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale catalog.

The renewed strength of New York’s breeding and incentives program over the past two years has benefited many areas of the state’s Thoroughbred industry, not the least of which has been the bloodstock market at the annual Fasig-Tipton Saratoga sales during the summer. Last year, Fasig-Tipton officials sought to further tap into the state’s growth by inaugurating a fall mixed and horses of racing age sale, and following a solid debut, the sale company added a second edition for 2013.
The catalog for the Fasig-Tipton Kentucky selected fall mixed sale is now available online, with 209 horses included in the catalog.
