The first open session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co.’s August yearling sale posted declines, a trend also seen during the sale’s opening select session.
The Washington Thoroughbred Breeders and Owners Association summer yearling and mixed sale concluded on Tuesday with increased sales figures and a lower buyback rate in its flagship yearling portion.
The opening select session of the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. August yearling sale cleared more horses than last year’s renewal, but otherwise saw across-the-board declines.
The Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society Manitoba yearling sale finished on Sunday with significant gains compared with last year’s renewal.

Grade 1 winner Dayatthespa will be offered at the 2014 Fasig-Tipton Kentucky fall selected mixed sale at the end of her autumn campaign.
The Fasig-Tipton Saratoga fall mixed and horses of racing age sale will grow from one day to two after receiving a record number of entries.
The following horses were selected as yearlings to watch at the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. August yearling sale based on their pedigrees. Conformation, physical characteristics, veterinarian records, and late updates to their pedigrees were not taken into consideration.
The first few sales of the North American yearling auction season revealed stability in the marketplace that spanned the upper and middle markets. The tenor of the market will be given another test Aug. 26-28, when the focus shifts to Florida for the Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. August yearling sale before turning to the bellwether Keeneland September sale.
When the filly Lexie Lou blew away the boys in the Queen’s Plate at Woodbine on July 6, it was an important boost for Ontario’s battered breeding industry and its annual premier yearling sale, which will hold its 2014 edition Sept. 2-3 at the Woodbine sales pavilion.
