Veteran trainer Ron Coyne Jr. doesn't have the size or scope of most major trotting outfits, but that hasn't stopped him from coming up with horses of superior talent racing in New Jersey. A few years ago, Coyne had the sophomore Southwind Admiral poised for the Yonkers Trot following a promising 2-year-old season. The MGM Borgata Series preliminaries are in the books. Over five Mondays 18 races were conducted with generous $50,000 purses attached. Just eight horses have reached the $477,000 final on May 8 and to do so they not only had to show up in the entry box but prove their mettle on race day.

Surreal Ideal has been on a dreamlike roll for trainer/co-owner Vernon Beachy. The 8-year-old male pacer will bring a 12-race win streak to Saturday's (May 2) Grade 3 $100,000 "The Wizard" Pacey Mindlin Memorial at Miami Valley Raceway, and he has not missed a paycheck in 52 consecutive starts dating back to November 2023.
