Parx: Cotillion could clarify division

Cotillion could clear up 3-year-old filly division

While Lady Eli proved far superior to her 3-year-old filly turf rivals earlier this season, the main-track division still is in search of a leader. Stellar Wind is the best in the West, but in her lone out-of-state trip, she finished fourth in the Kentucky Oaks. Back East, the major 3-year-old filly stakes have been a revolving door, and only Curalina has won more than once, though that came with an assist from the stewards in the Coaching Club American Oaks at Saratoga. The $1 million Cotillion, a 1 1/16-mile Grade 1 race that will be run Saturday at Parx, is the next and final stop of the year for the division. It may provide some needed separation at the top of the pecking order, or it may further confuse matters.

Parx: Pharoah's rivals clash in Pa. Derby

With Pharoah away, rivals seek big payday in Pennsylvania Derby

The Summer of Pharoah has not been easy for the Triple Crown winner’s contemporaries, who have been chasing him relentlessly for months. On Saturday, in the $1 million Pennsylvania Derby at Parx Racing, a field of 10 will get the opportunity to step out of American Pharoah’s shadow. Frosted, Upstart, Madefromlucky, Mr. Z, and War Story are a combined 0 for 13 against American Pharoah this season. The objective Saturday is to determine how they stack up against each other sans Pharoah.

Super Majesty looms large in Dogwood Stakes

The Dogwood Stakes has undergone numerous changes at Churchill Downs since the first running 40 years ago. The Grade 3 race will get yet another tweak when run under the lights for the first time Saturday night as the highlight of the only Downs After Dark program of the 11-day September meet.

Pennsylvania Derby: Take the hot hand

Jerardi: Go with the hot hand in Pennsylvania Derby

I am leaning strongly to Gimme Da Lute in the Pennsylvania Derby for a few reasons. There is very little early speed in the race, so he may be able to control the race from the front. And this colt is hot right now.
