Stakes victories by Stellar Wind and Miss Sunset Sunday at Del Mar were mixed with a few longshot winners, resulting in 23 winning pick six tickets, each worth $32,403.80. With multiple tickets winning, the single-ticket jackpot carried over again until Wednesday, and now stands at $441,293.

There are carryovers of $161,490 in the main pool and $317,581 in the single ticket jackpot pool of the $2 pick six for Sunday’s program at Del Mar. The carryovers were caused by a sequence of longshots on Saturday’s program.
It’s a fun-looking card at Saratoga on Saturday, with appearances from the Derby and Preakness winners in the Jim Dandy as well as a pair of other intriguing stakes races on tap. Wagering-wise, I’m going to start with the early pick five.
A series of relatively formful races led to a pick six payoff of $11,873 at Del Mar on Friday and boosted the carryover in the single ticket jackpot portion of the pool to $282,976 for Saturday’s program.
Steven Crist, the former editor and publisher of Daily Racing Form and noted multirace wagering expert, often likened bets like the pick four and the pick six to handicapping tournaments. Successful contest player and co-founder of Off the Hook Stables Joe Appelbaum agrees with that assessment. “That's a good way to think about it,” he said. “Really it's more like a poker tournament where entries just get knocked out as time goes on and you have to survive and advance.”
