Betatron is the speed from the rail in Friday night's Grade 3, $1 million Delta Jackpot, a 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds at Delta Downs in Vinton, La. Although 11 horses were entered Tuesday morning, the field will be limited to 10.

The Jackpot is the richest of four stakes on a 10-race card that also features the $300,000 Delta Princess for 2-year-old fillies. Together, the stakes are worth more than $1.4 million, making the program the most lucrative of the meet.

Unbeaten colt tries to hit $1M Jackpot

Cave's Valley comes into Friday night's Grade 3, $1 million Delta Jackpot with 3 wins in 3 starts and the connections to take him as far as his talent will carry him. Already a multiple stakes winner, he is owned by Harry Meyerhoff and his son, Tom, who raced 1980 Horse of the Year Spectacular Bid.

His trainer is Michael Trombetta, a leading Maryland-based horseman who in 2006 had the Kentucky Derby favorite in Sweetnorthernsaint. And the regular jockey for Cave's Valley is Ramon Dominguez, the nation's second-leading rider in wins heading into the final month of 2007.

Check It Twice sold after stakes win

MIAMI - Less than 24 hours after winning Saturday's $100,000 What a Pleasure Stakes, Check It Twice had a new home. He was sold privately to Sanford Robbins and transferred to trainer Todd Pletcher's south Florida base at Palm Beach Downs.

Check It Twice, a 2-year-old son of Repent, rallied to a 3 1/2-length victory over 4-5 favorite Coal Play in the 11/16-mile What a Pleasure. The win was the third in five starts for Check It Twice, a last-minute substitute for stablemate Cigar Man, who was held out of the race because of a minor foot injury.

Wade still in coma following Friday spill

CHICAGO - Lyndie Wade, the jockey who suffered a head injury in a spill Friday at Hawthorne, remained in a coma as of late Monday morning, but his agent, Jay Fedor, said doctors remain optimistic about his recovery.

"They don't seem to be concerned at the hospital," said Fedor, who has spent many of the last 72 hours in the pediatric intensive care unit of Loyola Medical Center in Maywood, Ill. "It's just a matter of his brain relaxing and getting back to normal."

Davila, Englehart tops again at Finger Lakes

John Davila Jr. and Chris Englehart continued their dominance of the jockey and trainer standings at Finger Lakes in 2007.

The live racing season ended two days earlier than scheduled when snow and freezing temperatures forced officials to cancel programs on Monday and Tuesday.

Davila, 44, set a track record by winning his sixth consecutive riding title with 158 winners. John Grabowski, who made a successful comeback from a fractured pelvis at age 45, finished second with 120 winners, including the 3,000th of his career in September.

Rain delays Santa Anita track work

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Rainy weather last Friday forced Santa Anita officials to delay the start of a main-track renovation project until after training concluded on Tuesday.

The labor-intensive project is expected to take at least seven days and will require the removal of the synthetic main track for an inspection of the asphalt base, according to the track's president, Ron Charles.

Gomez will ride Z Humor in $1M Jackpot

Jockey Garrett Gomez, who leads the nation in earnings, will ride Z Humor in Friday night's Grade 3, $1 million Delta Jackpot, the horse's trainer, Bill Mott, said Monday. Gomez is one of several high profile jockeys heading to Vinton, La., for the 1 1/16-mile race for 2-year-olds, which is the richest stakes in Louisiana.

Peitz taking his time with Perfect Vow

OZONE PARK, N.Y. - Coming off a smashing comeback victory in a first-level allowance race last month at Aqueduct, it would not have been surprising had Perfect Vow showed up in a stakes race for his next start.

But with big plans for Perfect Vow's 4-year-old season, trainer Danny Peitz wanted to play it on the conservative side, which is why Perfect Vow will make his next start in a second-level allowance race Wednesday at Aqueduct. The $58,000 race also has an optional claiming clause of $50,000, for which three of the nine runners are eligible.

Berry celebrates riding title by collecting five wins

Jockey Cliff Berry wrapped up his 12th Remington Park riding title in style on Saturday night, when he won five races on the closing night card, including the featured $75,000 Governor's Cup with Beta Capo. The pair powered to a four-length win over 3-5 favorite Sing Baby Sing, who stumbled at the start and rallied to finish four and a half-lengths clear of third-place finisher Greeley's Conquest

Beta Capo ($5.60) is trained by Steve Asmussen, who has now won four training titles at Remington. The horse races for Bob and Cathy Zollars.

Modest buy Illegal Memories wins million-dollar race

Illegal Memories, a Quarter Horse purchased for $5,500, won the richest race in Texas on Saturday night when he rollied to a neck win in the $1,069,297 Texas Classic Futurity at Lone Star Park. The Grade 1 race for 2-year-olds closed out the track's meet for Quarter Horses. For the win, Illegal Memories earned $475,837.

Roy Baldillez rode favorite Illegal Memories ($5.20) for trainer Doug McMullen. The horse races for Charlie Forbes and Tim Lange.
