Nevada Worrier learns to relax a bit

ARCADIA, Calif. - Nevada Worrier, the winner of Monday's $81,110 Cavonnier Stakes at the Oak Tree at Santa Anita meeting, has finally figured out there is more to Thoroughbred racing than running down the stretch.

After failing to win four two-furlong races at Santa Anita and Bay Meadows in a four-week span in March and April, Nevada Worrier learned patience over the summer. Monday, in his eighth career start, he won his first stakes, and joined the list of contenders for the $125,000 California Cup Juvenile on Nov. 3.

Silk Ridge poised to sweep series division

MIAMI - Silk Ridge will take center stage on Saturday's $1.6 million Festival of the Sun program as she attempts to become only the third filly to sweep her division in the 26-year history of the Florida Stallion Stakes.

Silk Ridge figures to be the odds-on favorite to add the $400,000 My Dear Girl Stakes to her previous stallion series wins in the Desert Vixen and Susan's Girl stakes. For good measure, the daughter of Eltish also dominated open company when making her two-turn debut in the mile-and-70-yard Brave Raj Stakes on Sept. 22.

Sail From Seattle's milestone comes off layoff in Sassafras

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Sail from Seattle has been a study in patience for Sam-Son Farm and trainer Mark Frostad.

On Sunday, that patience paid its first major dividend as Sail from Seattle, a 4-year-old colt who was making his fifth career start, became a stakes winner in the Mt. Sassafras here at Woodbine.

The $75,000 Mt. Sassafras, a seven-furlong overnight stakes for Ontario foals, offered neither the purse nor prestige of many stakes here, but its field of four included the top active local sprinters.
