We have two big-event days Saturday at Gulfstream Park and Fair Grounds, with $1 million Kentucky Derby preps anchoring both stakes-packed cards. The Grade 1 Florida Derby is the feature at Gulfstream, where eight other stakes, five of them graded, also will be run. The Grade 2 Louisiana Derby is the headliner at Fair Grounds, where seven other stakes will be decided, three of them graded.

There are many approaches to take as a horseplayer. It doesn’t hurt to mix things up to prevent getting into a rut and to keep your approach fresh. Last week I discussed the topic of churn and mentioned that I would be reviewing my play each week as I to try to raise my handle and improve my play. My goal is to churn 50-100 percent of my bankroll and end the day with a positive ROI of +.10/$1.00. I usually try to bet around 5 percent of bankroll on any individual race.

Race 4 – NINE POINT NINE (1) is the most probable winner on the card in this turf route. Runner-up last out setting a fast pace in a second-level allowance at 1 1/4 miles, she drops to starter allowance ($25,000 claiming) and shortens to 1 1/8 miles.
