Super Chow wins the six-furlong Hutcheson in March. The Carry Back will be his second attempt at seven furlongs.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Super Chow will seek to rebound from the first poor performance of his career when returning to Gulfstream Park to face six other 3-year-olds in Saturday’s $75,000 Carry Back. Ascendancy looks to strike while hot in She's a Tiger Stakes

With a little luck, Ascendancy would start in Saturday’s $75,000 She’s a Tiger Stakes at the Alameda County Fair in Pleasanton, Calif., on a three-race winning streak.

Ascendancy approaches the race on the strength of consecutive wins in allowance races at Golden Gate Fields on turf on May 20 and the synthetic main track on June 2. On April 29, Ascendancy finished a fast-closing sixth, beaten just 2 1/2 lengths, in the Golden Poppy Stakes on turf despite a wide trip.

Tino Attard runs Pleasure’s Gold on Saturday at Woodbine in the $100,000 Ballade Stakes, a six-furlong Ontario-sired sprint that he won in 2021 with her half-sister, Golden Vision.

Royal Ascot: Favorites could dominate in two Group 1 races

Barbara D. Livingston
Meditate, last year's Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf winner, will likely be the second choice in Friday's Coronation Cup at Ascot, as she has yet to best likely favorite Tahiyra.

Favorites won none of the four Group 1 races on Tuesday and Wednesday at Royal Ascot and true longshots captured three of those contests. Still, bettors are going to latch strongly onto the chalk in the pair of Group 1s on the Friday program at Royal Ascot.

Little Big Bear is the big favorite for the Group 1, $637,000 Commonwealth Cup while the filly Tahiyra as of Wednesday was an even shorter price for the Group 1, $318,000 Coronation Stakes.

Knapp's stable to have big presence at Los Alamitos meet

Barbara D. Livingston
The three-week Los Alamitos Race Course meet that begins Friday is topped by the $200,000 Great Lady M. Stakes, a 6 1/2-furlong race for fillies and mares on July 4.

Mares such as Fried Asparagus will determine what trainer Steve Knapp can accomplish at the three-week Los Angeles County Fair meeting that begins on Friday at Los Alamitos.

Knapp predicted on Wednesday that he will have approximately 15 runners at Los Alamitos in coming weeks, taking advantage of a dirt racing program to pad the statistics of his stable, which has won 34 races this year.

“We’ll try to spot them aggressively and run where they belong,” Knapp said.

Despite promising U.S. debut, Zarak has questions to answer

Ryan Thompson
Four-time stakes winner Super Chow, shown winning the Hutcheson in March, is a top contender in Saturday's Carry Back Stakes at Gulfstream Park.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Zarak gained tons of respect and earned major props when giving the super red-hot, odds-on favorite Big and Classy all he could handle before succumbing to finish a very game second making his U.S. debut off a 17 1/2-month layoff here earlier this month.

But despite that big effort the Chilean-bred may still have some questions to answer returning on relatively short rest and switching back to dirt for the first time in more than two years in Friday’s $51,000 allowance headliner at Gulfstream Park.

Mo Touring returns to action on favored surface

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Mo Touring ran well over Woodbine’s inner turf last year, and she should be favored in her season opener over the tight course on Friday. The race combines non-winners of two Ontario-sired allowance types with $40,000 claimers and goes as the seventh race.

A 4-year-old owned and bred by Gary Barber, Mo Touring missed the board in three stakes here at 2 on turf and the Tapeta after notching her debut at Gulfstream Park. Her best showing in those races was a fourth in the five-furlong Woodbine Cares Stakes on the inner turf.
