Foley having fun with streaking Troubleshooting

Troubleshooting gave trainer Greg Foley his first Grade 1 win at Kentucky Downs in the Franklin-Simpson before taking the Grade 3 Bryan Station at Keeneland.

Zabarta upsets the South Ocean Stakes at 13-1. She has improved dramatically in her last two starts for trainer Bill Tharrenos.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario – Stakes winners Zabarta and Souper Diva will clash Saturday at Woodbine in the $150,000 Shady Well Stakes, a six-furlong sprint for Ontario-sired or Ontario-bred 2-year-old fillies.

Zabarta took a few starts to put it all together. She dropped to $25,000 and popped in her third start on Oct. 10, winning a six-furlong maiden event by 6 1/2 lengths with a 63 Beyer Speed Figure. Just nine days later, she rallied from 10 lengths off a fast pace at 13-1 to win the restricted South Ocean Stakes going away by seven lengths.

Capuano thriving like no other with youngsters

On a list that includes Chad Brown and Bob Baffert, trainer Gary Capuano stands apart. The Mid-Atlantic horseman is currently enjoying a stellar campaign with juveniles, winning 18 of 44 races with 17 horses. His 41 percent strike rate with 2-year-olds is the highest in the country among trainers with at least 40 starts.

“I pinch myself most of the days just thinking, ‘When’s it going to stop?’ ” Capuano said. “But these horses are really doing well and we’re finding some good spots, and things have just been working out for us. We’ll ride the wave as long as we can.”

Carrasco will soon head to Turfway for the winter

When jockey Victor Carrasco made his stateside debut in the Mid-Atlantic region, he immediately found success at Laurel.

Jockey Victor Carrasco said that he plans to spend a few more weeks at Laurel Park before shifting his tack to Turfway Park for the winter. Barring two meets lost to injury, it will be his first winter racing outside Laurel since his 2013 debut.

The 33-year-old rider said that he was considering making the move to Turfway last winter, but he chose to stay closer to home after his son was born in August 2024.
