The catalog for the 2015 Barretts sale of selected 2-year-olds in training is now available online, featuring a group of 116 offerings.
The Ocala Breeders’ Sales Co. winter mixed sale has evolved over the past few years, and buyers have responded positively to the changes. In 2012, the auction company added a horses-of-racing-age portion to its January sale, taking advantage of the adjacent Ocala Training Center and the popularity of its sales of 2-year-olds in training. The sale expanded quickly with the introduction of the new market segment, and OBS further bolstered it last year by moving its annual Day of Champions races from March to January.
A season of transition for the Barretts sales company in Pomona, Calif., begins on Monday with a familiar launch – the January mixed sale that has started the California auction season for more than two decades. Monday’s sale of breeding stock, 2-year-olds, yearlings, and horses of racing age will be the second-to-last sale at the Barretts facility on the Los Angeles county fairgrounds. Following the select sale of 2-year-olds in training on Feb. 23, no further sales will be held at that site. The company will permanently shift its sales events to Del Mar.

A supplemental offering of 37 horses has been added to the Barretts January mixed sale, bringing the total number of horses cataloged to 371.
The Keeneland January horses of all ages sale continued the mixed market’s trend of finding its levels after a series of upward-trending seasons, posting across-the-board declines as it concluded the final session on Thursday.
Grade 3 winner Black Onyx was purchased for $7,500 on Thursday in the waning hips of the Keeneland January horses of all ages sale, and is headed to Florida to stand at stud.
