Kentucky Derby: Decisive Moment’s backers got good price in Future Wager

An analysis of the three Derby Future Wager pools offered earlier this year reveals the usual assortment of overlays and underlays.

The biggest hits would come to the scattering of folks who played Decisive Moment at 186-1 in Pool 1 or at 99-1 in Pool 3. Other potential bargains include Dialed In (8-1 in Pool 1 and 11-1 in Pool 2), Mucho Macho Man (30-1, 29-1, 27-1), Archarcharch (50-1 in Pool 2), Twice the Appeal (65-1 in Pool 3), and Nehro (26-1 in Pool 3).

A few horses were sent away lower odds in the futures than they figure to be Saturday, most notably Uncle Mo (7-2, 3-1, 3-1).
Separately listed horses that actually made the race: 8 from Pool 1; 8 from Pool 2; 12 from Pool 3. The mutuel field, the 24th or “all others” option in each pool, closed at 3-1, 7-2, and 8-1, respectively.

The pools ran Feb. 18-20, March 11-13, and April 1-3. Churchill has offered three parimutuel futures pools annually since 1999. Exactas became available starting with Pool 2 in 2009.
