Australia: Vinco cuts back for Eye Liner Stakes

The resilient gelding Vinco started 31 times before he won his first stakes in the listed Spear Chief Stakes at 7 1/2 furlongs at Eagle Farm Racecourse in Australia on June 4. The win equaled the longest victory of his career, but was arguably not at his best distance. Vinco has won six races at distances of 6 1/2 to seven furlongs, making Saturday’s $140,900 Eye Liner Stakes at 6 3/4 furlongs at Ipswich Racecourse appear to be an ideal trip.

Kyprios resolute in Ascot Gold Cup, holds Mojo Star and Stradivarius at bay

Two colts half his age - Kyprios and Mojo Star - kept the popular 8-year-old Stradivarius from a record-equaling fourth career win in Thursday’s Group 1 Ascot Gold Cup at Royal Ascot in England. Kyprios ($4.30) held off a late threat from 8-1 Mojo Star to win the historic race at 2 1/2 miles by a half-length.
