The versatile Flameaway - adept on turf, dirt, and synthetic - moved back to the main track and won for the third time on dirt, though this was his first main-track win over a fast track.
This featured Rego Park Stakes drew only five runners, but it’s certainly not lacking in depth.

A few of the key contenders in this race are exiting the Jan. 20 allowance won by Benevolence. That was yet another day when the main track at Aqueduct was strongly favoring horses who stayed on the rail. Therefore, I generally want horses who were racing outside in that event.
An appealing 12-race card at Gulfstream today, and I’ll focus on the back third, starting with race 9, since I have opinions in that race and in race 10.
Three graded stakes highlight the Saturday card at Santa Anita: the Santa Maria, the Thunder Road, and the San Vicente. Unique Bella, Blackjackcat, and Ax Man all appear to be legitimate short-priced favorites, but I’ll take a serious swing against one of them. I’ll also look to make a win wager later on the card in race 9.
