The horse I want to bet is SHAMROCK ROSE (#7). She made her dirt debut last time in the Busher and put forth a solid effort to be fourth behind the Kentucky Oaks-bound Midnight Disguise. She never looked like the winner, but I thought she fought on gamely to the wire in a tough race.

ALTESINO (#3) may be in better form than it appears. There were obviously some issues that kept him off the racetrack following his loss Aug. 24 at Saratoga, where he was hindered by a slow pace. Now he’s making his first start since last spring that hasn’t been preceded by a layoff.
While most people will be focusing on the giant jackpot carryover in the Rainbow 6 at Gulfstream Park on Saturday, I’m most interested in playing a daily double that links races 11 and 12. Race 12 is the Grade 3 Hutcheson going six furlongs for 3-year-olds on the main track, and there’s a runner in there whom I’m particularly interested in. I’m hoping to successfully navigate my way through the 11th race and be alive in a double to him in the Hutcheson; here’s how I’ll attack the play.

This final-round prep offers 100 points to the winner and 40 points to the runner-up, virtually guaranteeing both of those finishers a spot in the Kentucky Derby starting gate. This field includes the top three finishers from the Risen Star, the local prep for this race, as well as the winner of Oaklawn Park’s Southwest Stakes.
