Rampellini: Oaklawn Park horses to watch for week of March 28
TWIRLING CINNAMON
Trainer: Shea Stuart
Last race: March 24, 7th
Finish: 4th by 2
Beyer: 70
He’s appealing as a horse who has been a popular claim throughout his career – and even following this start, he was haltered in a 10-way shake. He has run some competitive races at Oaklawn, but he is winless over the local surface in eight tries and seems like one who could step up his game over a different surface. Following the Oaklawn meet, Stuart is scheduled to base at Monmouth Park.
WHAT WHAT WHAT
Trainer: Ingrid Mason
Last race: March 23, 7th
Finish: 4th by 3
Beyer: 59
She found herself farther off the pace than usual last out but managed to close for fourth in a sprint. Following the race, What What What was claimed in a seven-way shake. She is an interesting prospect for turf later this year as she earned her best Beyer Speed Figure on grass last November at Del Mar.
TOASTING MASTER
Trainer: Scott Young
Last race: March 24, 10th
Finish: 9th by 11 1/4 lengths
Beyer: 65
A consistent sort as a rule, he set a pressured pace on the stretch-out to two turns last out before yielding. He was claimed out of the race that carried an optional tag of $16,000 in an 11-way shake. In 2015, Toasting Master ran fourth in the Gotham and sixth in the Wood Memorial.
