Belmont at the Big A

Ozone Park, N.Y.

Belmont Park, a cornerstone of horse racing tradition, is undergoing transformative renovations to enhance and elevate the spectator experience. From modernizing facilities to preserving its rich history, the renovations at Belmont Park are poised to redefine the standard for premier racing venues.

While these ground-up renovations take place between 2023 and 2025, live racing at Belmont moves to nearby Aqueduct Racetrack. These “Belmont at the Big A” meets occur during the typical Belmont spring and fall meet dates, with the exception of the Belmont Stakes in June. The final leg of the Triple Crown will take place at Saratoga Race Course during a special four-day spring session.

Belmont at the Big A will be the temporary home to multiple top-graded stakes races, including the Ruffian, Man o’ War, Brooklyn, Joe Hirsch Turf Classic, Woodward, Champagne, Frizette, and Vosburgh.

FAQs

  • Belmont at the Big A meets will run May-July and September-early November, with the exception of Belmont Stakes week.

  • The Belmont Stakes will be run at Saratoga Race Course in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., during a special four-day meeting.

  • Post time is typically 1:20 p.m. Eastern, but may be earlier on major race days.

Through a press box window: History, a little charm, and traffic on the Belt
Through the dirty windows, under a leaky roof, with the loud clanging of heat pipes and, most recently, heavy-duty industrial fans, the Aqueduct press box is where DRF's David Grening watched the most races over three-plus decades of covering racing.
