Lou Hodges Jr./Hodges Photography
War Story has received extensive gate training to help cure his problems breaking slowly at the start of races.

NEW ORLEANS – The lack of mistakes made by International Star in the Lecomte and Risen Star stakes resulted in victories. Mistakes made by War Story in both those races cost him his best chance of winning.

Upstart (right) defeated Itsaknockout by 2 3/4 lengths in the Fountain of Youth, but was disqualified for interference.

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – Itsaknockout will go down in the record books as the official winner of the 2015 Fountain of Youth Stakes. But for trainer Todd Pletcher, that victory was somewhat bittersweet, coming as it did via the controversial disqualification of Upstart. Many, including Pletcher himself, thought that decision could have gone either way.

On Saturday, Pletcher and everybody else is hoping the end result will be more conclusive when Itsaknockout and Upstart square off once again in the Grade 1, $1 million Florida Derby.

Jerardi: Searching for Derby prospects to use with Dortmund

Firing Line, easy winner of the Sunland Park Derby, is an intriguing prospect for the Kentucky Derby.

We are five weeks away from the Kentucky Derby, and I admit to feeling confused. You ever look at a race over and over until all the horses start to look the same? You eventually get a headache and finally just move on to the next race. I am just about there with this Derby.
