CALGARY, Alberta - C D Ruckus is the one to catch in Friday's featured seventh race, for $20,000 claimers. The six-furlong dash drew a field of seven.

In his latest effort, the Ron Grieves-trained C D Ruckus overcame the outside post in a field of nine to post a half-length victory in 1:11 for six furlongs under Real Simard, who retains the call. C D Ruckus drew post 5 for this sprint, which offers a purse of $15,100.

Smok'n Frolic captures Fashion

ELMONT, N.Y. - Dogwood Stable's Smok'n Frolic pulled away in the stretch to notch a 5 3/4-length victory in Thursday's $82,225 Fashion Stakes for 2-year-old fillies at Belmont Park.

Trained by Todd Pletcher, Smok'n Frolic, overcame a troubled start as she stumbled and was then pinched back between horses. A stalking third turning for home, she launched a strong three-wide move to collar the dueling Ghost Wrestling and My Heart's Deelite in the stretch and take command, even though she failed to change leads.

Point Given adds spice to gallop

ELMONT, N.Y. - The morning after Bob Baffert saw the biggest hit on Broadway, the three-time Eclipse Award winning-trainer was treated to a different kind of show.

Once again Baffert's Preakness winner, Point Given, injected a dose of theatrics into a routine gallop as he reared up and tossed exercise rider Pepe Aragon while walking under the shedrow Thursday at Belmont Park

Acorn winner can fill the filly void

ELMONT, N.Y. - The career-ending injury to Golden Ballet has created a need for a new force in the 3-year-old filly division.

There are a number of would-be candidates in Friday's Grade 1 $200,000 Acorn Stakes at Belmont Park. The Acorn is the first leg of New York's Triple Crown for fillies, which also includes the Mother Goose Stakes on June 30 and the Coaching Club American Oaks on July 21.

McCarthy out for two to four weeks

Jockey Mike McCarthy will be out of action for several weeks while recuperating from injuries sustained when his mount, Live Wire Lil, fell shortly after the finish of Tuesday's eighth race at Delaware Park.

According to his agent, Ed Fair, McCarthy broke several ribs and will be unable to ride for two to four weeks. McCarthy, the leading rider at Delaware for five seasons, currently ranks second in the standings with 36 wins.

Live Wire Lil, a 4-year-old filly trained and owned by Steve Klesaris, got up shortly after falling and escaped serious injury.

Phone Trick colt tops sale

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Embattle, a $110,000 Phone Trick colt, fetched the highest price at the Canadian Thoroughbred Horse Society's annual 2-year-old in training sale at the Woodbine Sale Pavilion on Tuesday.

Stubbs Investments Inc. purchased Embattle, who is out of the stakes-placed Bold Ruckus mare Embur Sunshine, making him a half-brother to stakes winner Ten Flat. Hill 'N' Dale Sales Agency, agent, consigned the sale topper, who worked three furlongs in 35.20 seconds at the sale's gallop show on Monday.
