Clear sailing for Ten Most Wanted

STICKNEY, Ill. - Ten Most Wanted will not win a medal for toying with five overmatched opponents Saturday in the National Jockey Club Handicap at Hawthorne Race Course. At least he made it around the first turn this time. At least he reminded racing fans what an overpowering horse he is when things go his way.

Meteor Storm gallops in San Juan Capistrano

ARCADIA, Calif. - Meteor Storm bit trainer Wally Dollase's thumb early Monday while walking off the Santa Anita racetrack after a gallop. Less than 12 hours later, Meteor Storm repaid Dollase with a convincing victory in the $250,000 San Juan Capistrano Invitational Handicap.

"That was a good omen," Dollase said.

Intercontinental sweeps to Jenny Wiley victory

Intercontinental wins the $110,300 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland on Sunday.

LEXINGTON, Ky. - Intercontinental did not get to run her usual way in Sunday's $110,300 Jenny Wiley Stakes at Keeneland. But she got her usual result, a victory.

Making a wide, sweeping rally - instead of a short burst in the style of most former European turf horses - she scored a length victory over Ocean Drive before a record Sunday crowd of 21,766 at Keeneland.

Allswellthatnswell triumphs in Stanford Stakes

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Allswellthatnswell ($5.20) raced very wide contesting the early pace down the backstretch, pulled away into the lane and was unchallenged as she earned her first stakes victory in the $68,137 Stanford Stakes at Bay Meadows on Sunday.

"I tried to lay third, but she's so competitive she wouldn't let me," said winning rider Ron Warren Jr., who rode the 3-year-old filly to a 11/2-length victory over I'mbethtoo for his brother, trainer Don Warren. Allswellthatnswell covered six furlongs in 1:09.21.

Holy Bubbette wins Woodbine's Whimsical

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Florida shipper Holy Bubbette set sail on a clear lead and never looked back to capture Sunday's $139,000 Whimsical Stakes for fillies and mares at Woodbine.

Holy Bubbette took a ton of late money in the six-furlong dash, going from 9-5 when she entered the gate to even-money favorite during the race. She recorded moderate fractions of :22.95 and :46.13 under Joe Bravo before opening up a three-length cushion at the top of the stretch, and then coasted home on top by two and three-quarter lengths.

Trieste's Honor takes California Derby

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Trieste's Honor ($6.40) raced wide the entire way and defeated Capitano by a neck after a stirring stretch duel as the two pulled away from the rest of the field in Saturday's at Bay Meadows.

The two favorites dominated through the lane in the 1 1/8-mile race with Trieste's Honor's winning in 1:47.95. The two were six lengths in front of third-place finisher Dream Place.

Capitano and Erik's the Charm alternated on the lead through fast 22.74, 45.67, 1:09.74 fractions.

Megahertz rallies to win Santa Barbara

ARCADIA, Calif. - Overcoming trouble on the final turn, Megahertz rallied wide in deep stretch to win the ninth stakes of her career in Saturday's $200,000 at Santa Anita.

The win gave Megahertz consecutive victories in the Grade 2 Santa Barbara, the championship race of the winter-spring meeting for turf females.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Megahertz ($2.80) ran 1 1-4 miles on turf in 2:00.71. Last for the first mile, Megahertz attempted to close ground between Mandela and Star Vega on the final turn but was caught in traffic, forcing Solis to check.

Janeian wins the $75,000 Irving Distaff by four-lengths at Lone Star Park on Saturday.

GRAND PRAIRIE, Texas - Janeian, who set a course record last year in a stakes at Hawthorne, almost set another one Saturday at Lone Star Park when, in her first start since November, she pulled away to a four-length win in the $75,000 Irving Distaff. Cat's Cat finished second, a half-length in front of 2-5 favorite Bedanken.

Long idle 'Yada' has back class

PORTLAND, Ore. - Yada Yada Yada will return from an absence of more than 13 months to contest Monday's best race at Portland Meadows, a 5 1/2-furlong race for $6,250 claimers who have never won two races.

Yada Yada Yada, a 4-year-old son of Can't be Slew, began his career in spectacular fashion in November 2002, winning the Bill Wineberg Stakes at six furlongs in his first start. He came right back to run third to Glad to be Here and Stately Jack Flash in the one-mile Oregon Futurity.
