Black Bart best in Quicken Tree

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Black Bart, the former $16,000 claimer, scored his second stakes win of the Hollywood Park meeting in Sunday's $76,800 Quicken Tree Stakes for state-breds.

The Quicken Tree was a prep to the $125,000 Claiming Crown Jewel Stakes at Canterbury Park on July 17, trainer Troy Bainum said.

Ridden by Alex Solis, Black Bart was always close to the pace in the Quicken Tree, run over 1 1/2 miles on turf. He led for the first half-mile, stalked Shalini for a half-mile and regained the lead on the final turn.

Whatsthenameman wins Malcolm Anderson

SAN MATEO, Calif. - Whatsthenameman ($9.40) quickly burst into contention after breaking in midpack and easily won the $71,512 Malcolm Anderson Stakes at Bay Meadows on Sunday.

The 2-year-old colt beat Questionable World by three lengths in the 4 1/2-furlong stakes races, winning in 51.81 seconds.

"He's a quick little guy," winning trainer Frank Monteleone said. "I trained his mom (House Maid) when she set a track record for three furlongs at Turf Paradise."

Skymeister splashes to win in Arcadia

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Skymeister took control entering the turn of Sunday's $50,000 Arcadia Stakes in a driving rainstorm and did not look back in winning by 3 3/4 lengths.

The Louisiana-bred 3-year-old son of Holzmeister covered the sloppy six furlongs in 1:11.43 with leading rider Lonnie Meche in the saddle. Brandon's Marfa splashed home second and Walk This Way picked up third money with a late rally from well back.

Dressed for Action speeds to the wire en route to a 1 1/2 length victory in Sunday's $77,000 Adena Springs Matchmaker at Fort Erie on Sunday.

Dressed for Action recorded a front-running, 1 1/2 length victory in Sunday's $77,000 Adena Springs Matchmaker, a five-furlong turf race at Fort Erie.

Owned by Shoestring Stable and based at Woodbine with trainer Tony Mattine, Dressed for Action was ridden by Ray Sabourin and returned $7.30 as the favorite in the field of 10 fillies and mares.

Soon to Be Single rallied to finish second, at 20-1, with Leading Role third as the 9-2 second choice.

Eye of the Sphynx cruises in Woodbine Oaks

Eye of the Sphynx and Todd Kabel pass the wire 4 1/4-length winners of the $500,000 Labatt Woodbine Oaks on Sunday at Woodbine.

ETOBICOKE, Ontario - Favored Eye of the Sphynx ($3.60) took control on the far turn and drew clear in the stretch for an authoritative victory in Sunday's $500,000 .

It was a record seventh Oaks win for Sam-Son Farm. Jockey Todd Kabel won his second Oaks aboard Eye of the Sphynx for trainer Mark Frostad, who was winning the Oaks for the third time.

Pocus Hocus rebounds in Monmouth Beach

Pocus Hocus (#5) edges past Chrusciki late to take the $70,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes by a head on Sunday at Monmouth Park.

OCEANPORT, N.J. - Pocus Hocus wore down Chrusciki to win the $70,000 Monmouth Beach Stakes for fillies and mares Sunday at Monmouth Park.

Those two battled through most of the 1 1/16 miles with Chrusciki setting the pace and Pocus Hocus prompting closely in second. They were side by side the length of the stretch with Pocus Hocus accelerating in the final 50 yards to secure the win by a head.

Pocus Hocus ($7.00) stopped the clock in 1:44.32 over the fast track for her sixth win in 25 career starts.

Eibar Coa was aboard for his third winner of the day.

Boston Express romps in Dixie Miss

BOSSIER CITY, La. - Breaking sharply under John Jacinto, Boston Express quickly cleared her seven rivals in Saturday's $50,000 Dixie Miss Stakes and cruised to victory by 9 3/4 lengths in a stakes record time of 1:09.25 for the six furlongs.

Injustice rallied from well back to take the place spot, nipping Movant at the wire. Also left in the winner's wake was 7-10 Everheart, who chased in vain throughout and reported home fifth.

NTRA Pick 4 returns $34,249

The NTRA Pick 4 National Wager for June 12 comprised of the Brooklyn Handicap, Fleur De Lis Handicap, Stephen Foster Handicap and Charles Whittingham Memorial Handicap returned $34,249 for a $2 wager. The total pool for the first of four scheduled was $616,489. The winners and their respective win payoffs:

Even the Score decisive winner in Californian

INGLEWOOD, Calif. - Last week, trainer Vladimir Cerin was undecided whether to run Even the Score in Saturday's $250,000 on dirt or the $350,000 Charles Whittingham Handicap on turf at Hollywood Park.

The decision to start in the Grade 2 Californian resulted in a decisive win, and put the 6-year-old horse on the verge of a unique milestone in Hollywood Park history. Having won the Grade 2 Mervyn LeRoy Handicap on May 8, Even the Score is likely to try for a sweep of the track's major races for older horses on dirt in the $750,000 Hollywood Gold Cup on July 10.

Arlington tote board catches fire

A fire broke out in Arlington Park's tote board shortly after the last race Saturday, but by early evening the smoky blaze was under control, and Sunday's races were expected to go off as scheduled.
